Hey everyone,
I have a 1996 GT-S Convertible. It is a 5-speed manual. So far, my gas mileage has been coming in at about 22-23 miles per gallon. I drive a fairly blended combination of open freeway and around town. Does this seem right? I expected I would doing better than this. Still love the car, but surprised... |

Was your car imported from Canada? I've never seen a gt-s vert in the states before.
You should be getting better mileage than that. You should do a tune up and then it should be better. My auto GT convertible get's 22 city and about 27-28 highway. -------------------- |

Was your car imported from Canada? I've never seen a gt-s vert in the states before. I don't know but now I will have to check. I don't think it was, though. I live in SoCal and it would be a long trip from Canada to here. Thank you for all the feedback everyone. It seems that for a GT that an average of about 23 is about right. I filled up yesterday and had gone 297.2 miles on 12.7 gallons of gas for an average of 23.4. It is also apparent that ST seems to get better mileage from those of you who have weighed in with that. I am going to Vegas this weekend and that should be all open road so I will see how high it goes up to... |

I am going to Vegas this weekend and that should be all open road so I will see how high it goes up to... Highway mileage is worse in a convertible. The vert has more drag because the roof is not real smooth or aerodynamic. You might as well just put the top down for the trip, take the extra couple mpg hit and enjoy yourself. |

That makes sense - I actually thought about that. Although I am in southern california so I have my top down constantly. I plan to have the top down all the way to Vegas, but we will see how hot it gets! On a side note, I was reading the manual and it "recommends" 91 octane gas, so I spent the big bucks and filled up with 91. I have noticed zero difference in performance, but will everyone know if it helps my gas mileage... |
