Im not sure if this is in the right section but I thought I would put it in here.
I was driving my 1995 gts today, and i noticed that in 3rd 4th and 5th, that if i put it right to the floor, my rpm rises really quickly from 2000 to about 3500 rpm, but the speed is not going as fast as the rpm. the rpm will hit 3500 and then drop back down to 3000 and stay at 3000 while the speed increses. It does this in 3rd 4th and 5th, but not 1st or 2nd. I cleaned my engine today with degreaser and then rinsed it off with a hose but only trickled it lightly and was careful at what i got wet. Now Im not sure if a sensor just got wet or if this is something really serious. This was the first time driving my car after i cleaned the engine so it could have just been a wet sensor. It was been about 3 or 4 hours since i washed it and i currently have my battery disconected to reset everything in the car, and I am waiting a few minutes before I take it for a ride. If you know anything about what this could be, or what i could do to fix it that would be really helpful and I would appreciate any help. Bump.. anyone else? Sounds like your clutch is going out, just a coincidence with cleaning your motor. You should be able to use a pressure washer on your engine and not get water anywhere near your actual clutch lining and such. It might do it in 1st and 2nd but is just less noticeable. It's typically more noticeable in higher gears because, for example, if you floor the car in 1st, the gear ratio is short enough that you just speed up quickly, but if you floor it in 5th the gear is so long it takes a lot of effort to increase speed/RPM. That effort, with a worn clutch, just becomes the motor revving faster. All you can do is replace it. If there is actually water and such getting into there, you should still replace it and replace whatever is allowing foreign contaminants in. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT
