Just finished up replacing the head gasket due to a compresion leak into the radiator (foaming the antifreeze). Start it up and now the rear main is hemorraging oil out of the bellhousing.
Anyone out there replaced their rear main seal "in the car"? Gonna have to pull the trans, flywheel to get to it. What a PITA. |

The only thing more difficult about doing it with the engine in the car is getting the seal to seat properly while under the car or in the wheel well. I would suggest getting a housing gasket as well and just take the whole rear main seal housing off, then you can put the seal in the housing outside of the engine bay and it'll be much easier. Just check and recheck then recheck again to make sure the seal is uniformly seated into the housing. Sounds like you pretty much know what you're in for. Make sure you have some FIPG and some grease for the inside of the seal.
