I thought I'd give a heads up to everyone on this board seeing as my family just took advantage of this program themselves. My parents still had a 95 Ford Econoline 150 conversion van with 130K on it (still in really good shape too) that they bought new when we were young for trips and such. Once they announced this program, my parents thought it would be a great time to trade it in so my sis could get a brand-new instead of used first car. So after shopping around a few days and doing the research, they decided on a 2010 Kia Soul (+ model, black w. auto. It's a REALLY nice car, but that’s another story ). They had to wait a few weeks for the government plan to be finalized, and were told that they could pick the car up this past Friday, the day the finalized program would go into effect.
Long story short, their 6:30 PM appointment to sign the paperwork and drive the car away ended up taking nearly 3 hours because of the amount of people coming in to the dealership (Nissan/Kia) inquiring about the plan and purchasing cars! The sales person who sold them the car had said that 42 people (including my parents) had already made plans to buy a new car prior to the plan taking effect from their dealership alone, and that combined with the rate of people that had come in that Friday, they were guessing that the plan would only be around a week or so before the funds would run out for new car shoppers! After doing the math myself, there is only enough $ in the program for around 230,000 new car purchases, so if you are interested, I'd get a move on! fk the new cars...... 90's > Jap Vehicles for me only please.
But I guess that's good news for others who want newer cars. I still get very good gas mileage and would slap someone if they offered me that much to sell my car and introduce myself to car payments. IN reality, you pay more for fuel efficient cars, which is added in your monthly payments... So ask yourself... Are you really saving? -------------------- 91 MR2 Turbo SW20, 92 MR2 Turbo SW20, 95 Celica GT ST204
