Story: Just replaced my 5sfe (lost compression in cyl. 1) with another one that supposedly has 100k on it.
Rebuilt entire top end. Brand new plugs, wires. All sensors transferred from old motor in working condition. Symptoms: Car won't idle steadily...very rough miss. Has no power. Absolutely no bottom end. When I am cruising at high RPM's and press the clutch, the engine stalls. Also stalls every time I come to a stop sign or try to slow down and turn in somewhere. Any ideas? I've checked grounds, plugs, wires, timing, vacuums, sensors. Dizzy worked on old motor. I'm flopping like a fish here. I haven't gotten any CEL's. Haven't had a chance to test compression just yet either. Please tell me the bottom end of this motor is not bad too. That will make 3 bad bottom end 5sfe's for me if it is. And I will probably drop a stick of dynamite in the car if that's the case. This post has been edited by joeladam02: Aug 15, 2009 - 9:49 AM |

dollars to donuts you have the plug wires in the wrong order on the distributor cap, or maybe one's not plugged in tightly enough on the cap
I had almost the exact same problem, VERY similar to your symptoms, and it turned out I'd had a wire come loose off my distributor cap when my battery slid off the tray. Took me 3 days to figure it out! -------------------- |
