What do you guys think??
GT4 or EVO? I want to have a discussion about this without further hijacking Jim's thread from http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...1364&st=260 -------------------- Mike W

QUOTE Cons for Evo: They don't seem to look as aerodynamic (maybe) FMIC not W2A? Can't run 20psi on stock head & block? Huh? Who told you that? Stock boost on the evo9 is around 19psi, and most people run around 22psi. You can also reflash the stock ecu with a 50$ usb cable and open source software and have a fully tunable ecu that can run any size injector you want. Add alcohol injection and you can retune the car to make 400whp on the stock turbo. The car also stops on a dime with those massive brembo brakes, and the handling is incredible. Seriously, any car can be made to be great, but out of the box, the evo is an all round better car. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I think he is talking about the evo 4's and 5's...which would make sense because they aren't running no where near 19psi stock. If you want my oppinion in comparing an evo 5 to a gt-4 i couldnt really give you an honest oppinion because i have not drivin in either, however i will tell you this. The celica/st165,185,or 205's were very ahead of their time in the sense that they laid down really good power with the potential to pull a lot more out of them and still run reliably. Comparing my st185 swap to a new evo 8,9,or 10 for that matter, i would still take a swaped celica over one anyday. The insides look and feel cheap, the body style is just OK, and the power can be matched very easily with a 3s-gte engine. You can do more simple mods to a 3sgte platform and pull more power out of it then you can a 4G63 without cracking the block and doing internal work and/or head work. They are a very under estimated engine and not a very well know engine either, but i can tell you this, the aftermarket support, just over the past year or 2 for the 3sgte has blown up, and a lot more/different parts are now aviable. As for the interior and the visual looks of either car, i love the inside of my celica, next to srt-4 seats my leather celica seats are probably the most comfortable seat i have sat in in a car. The outside, when done correctly on either car can look very good or very bad, so thats up to you on how you want to mod it. All in all, car for car, id still take a celica for these 3 reasons. 1) cheaper 2) Faster 3) Nicer my last point is this...i have ran 2 different evo's both on a closed airport road...1 was a stock evo 9...i was at his back bumper when i mashed it and when i got to about his door he jumped on the evo, we were both in 2nd gear, i pulled hard to about a fender infront of him and then i slowly walked away from him....the second evo was an evo 8 with a few mods done, 24psi, full turbo back exhaust, intake, front mount, and a few other things i cant remember off the top of my head...we went from about a 60 roll...from 60 to about 120 he pulled me but not as hard as i thought he was going to...keep in mind i have nothing done to my car other then a front mount and a 3" open DP...my car was running at about 12psi... 3S-GTE FTW -------------------- I"M NOT A TOYOTA FAN, IM A FANATIC 1984 accord hatch 5 speed (T-Belt)-Junkyard 1991 VDUB jetta wolfsburg Ed. 5 speed (clutch)-junkyard 1988 Dodge Aries K (sold) 1969 Chevy El camino - Traded for celica 1991 Dodge Daytona-Traded for Celica 1988 Chevy Camaro-Work in Progress 1989 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 - For Sale 1995 Toyota Celica-Work in Progress |
