I'm hoping to have my 3s swap done by October, but my emissions is going to be coming up after December. I'm just wondering what you do to pass emissions with a 3s swap. Is there something you can do to make it so they can plug into the computer and clear out the codes to pass the car or im a screwed???

i don't have a 3S-GTE YET, but from what i'm understanding from my research and contacts, is that it'll pass everything on emissions EXCEPT visual smog checks.. so if you know anyone that does any of the checks, you're golden... if you can shell out a little extra cash for the check to the right person, you should be good... otherwise, you can try explaining that it'll pass everything but visual....

other options that may or may not work are: put in a better catalytic converter without telling them (if they don't figure it out), new plugs, make sure there's no valve overlap (SHOULD be an ECU tune regarding VVT-i or VVTL-i depending on which generation 3S-GTE you have), injector cleaner, perhaps new injectors, lower pressure on the fuel pump, disable and/or put on a smaller weaker turbo (if running aftermarket), etc....

hope i could be of some help.....

also: have you considered doing the swap after the emissions screening?

He will fail because his car is obd2 and the 3sgte is obd1. When they plug in the emissions computer, it will not read any data.

Once you own a swapped or boosted celica, you will figure out where to go to get it passed.

how hard would it be to put an obd1 unit in the car? and if i'm correct in what i figure, assuming it's just the sensor that's causing the failure, couldn't he just swap the whole unit and not have to mess with the wiring?

i might also have that issue, i have the car, and mine's a 94, so no need for an emissions test for me, BUT i don't know if i need one now that it's changed title to my name, or if i'll need one after i put the 3S-GTE in it....
