I bought an oil drain bolt from Autozone and it came with a light blue rubber gasket. When I removed the original oil drain bolt, it was all metal and no gasket. Anyway, I completed the oil change and ran the car around the block. Oil level is good and there's no oil on or around the new oil drain bolt with the gasket. I should be all set right??
I did hand tighten the new bolt with gasket and gave it a 1/3" turn (a bit more than 1/4" because I figured the gasket would crush and seat a bit more than if it were just a metal bolt). This post has been edited by 6G96GT: Oct 4, 2009 - 4:34 PM |

you shouldn't have any worries, sometimes cars have gaskets sometimes they don't but either way they all work. If you noticed it takes a good unloosen on the bolt for oil to drip out. your pan would have to be warped or wack at the drain bolt hole for it to cause leaks.
