As soom of you know, I am the not proud owner of a 1989 Nissan Sentra. I love that car but Haysoos Kreesto it is one hell of a beater car.
It runs like a champ and has given me more miles then I thought it had left in it. I was thinking about making this a "project" car. I have an interview in a week or so and if I land this government job I will have some job security, thus I'll have some income and an ability to up my car. Was wondering if any nissan owners, or people who just know could give me some suggestions to do. What I have on my list as possibilities: A new Engine (it has nearly 140k on it and is looking at me saying "I'm ready to retire if your ok with that.") New Shocks (mine right now still have some life but I'm sure that at some point, 140k have taken its toll on it.) A new muffler (its starting to rust out and I'm concerned that I won't have enough back pressure to start the car soon) New hoses (I replaced some hoses a while ago, but honestly don't trust em too much) Replacing power steering if at all possible (it leaks, kind of a bitch to deal with oil stains) Upgrade brakes (drum breaks, last legs) Give him some new fluids (oil and power steering is always covered but I'm not quite sure when the last time I put any water, brake, transmission or any other.) Replace fuel pump? (I see people do that so I figure it must have some functionality) Clean the ****er (I am lazy so it is often dirty) Get new tires (one has a gash in it so bad that I am afraid to push it past 40.) What else should I do? If there are any people in my situation, I would absolutely appreciate advice on what to do, where to go, what to look at, who I should talk to, etc. Ty all, Peace! only problem with this is you start putting money into a car u end up putting so much into it that u end up to the point of you coulda bought a faster better more reliable car by the time you add up your coins
i did the math the other day, i coulda bought a 94-95 gt at the rate im going, but part of that was having to buy a nose for the car when i got it 140k on a nissan aint too much, id check the compression on the engine, if its good replace the timing chain, seals, and gaskets and you should be fine for another 140k im pretty sure if you did a tune up, all of what i mentioned above, new fluids as you said and a new exaust it will run better than before. the fuel pump should be fine as well, if you can get to the pump esily id check it and replace just the filter sock on the pump, but ebay pumps are cheap enough and you can get a whinebro for 100 coin This post has been edited by Joe_1985: Nov 27, 2009 - 5:04 AM -------------------- 94 stx coupe, super mario kart beater

I definitely want a new car because well... you'll see in a few minutes when I post up my pictures. I did change the timing belt because it freaked out that it would blow up on me. I replaced the head gasket, but I am not sure what seal you are talking about. How would I check the compression on the engine? I am a noob obviously and I really don't know the advanced stuff. Also how would I check the fuel pump? -------------------- Brand new 6gc owner! (sort of 2011)
