Hey guys, thanks to all of you guys (and gals) who came out and made this one awesome FotY meet. Hopefully word will spread and the next meet will be even better! And for those who missed the meet, well....TOO BAD! Heheh, you missed out!
I'd like to first start off by thanking several members (and non-members) for their efforts in making this meet go as smoothly as it did. Thanks to MaskedMan for helping out with the planning of the event, helping out with the activities, and filling in on all the little details we forgot about for the meet. Then there was John (former 6GC member) who also came out and helped run the meet as well as flipped the patties and dished out some sweet double and quadruple burgers. I'd also like to thank ZeroCool and his buddy for sitting out on the street to direct people into the campground and for their inspired attempts at making a fire for the rest of the freezing members as well as Cho's buddy who spent the whole day in a t-shirt! Dude ran through the challenges almost all by himself and nearly won the whole thing! Special thanks to Ty for this food that saved the day for half of us who were starving until the charcoal came. Then there was little Bri who toughed it out with all us adults and played a big role in helping Team Ty win the "Amazing Race" challenge. It was kinda late at the end, getting really dark and cold, so sorry if I couldn't say goodbye to everyone personally. But I'm glad I got to meet most of you and talk to you guys for a little bit. Didn't keep score, but I guessed almost everyone walked away with something nice. Oh, and I didn't get everybody's info, so I'll contact you guys to PM that so I can get started on the scrapbook. So feel free to post pics here are in the multimedia forum, post comments and/or suggestions/ideas, and let's make the next meet, MotY (Middle of the Year) bigger and better. So for those of you who did not make it to FotY and what to know what went down, here's the scoop: The meet officially started at 12:00, but of course, things didn't go as planned. Some got lost...others got..."loster", but for the most part everyone showed up as promised. As per the schedule, there wasn't a whole lot of standing around...registration upon arrival, t-shirts handed out, name badges given... Then meet/greet followed by the BBQ. It was a potluck where members volunteered to bring in food and supplies.... ....unfortunately the fire/charcoal was delayed in its arrival...which lead to desperate measures being taken... In the meantime, we got to take some picture of each member alone with their car... Then once everyone was settled in, we gathered everyone around to begin the Amazing "Chase" challenge which consisted of teams of 6GC members pairing off to compete in 4 separate challenges. The first (for half of the teams) proved exceedingly difficult as the cold weather added an unexpected twist to the challenge... With freezing hands, the teams scrambled to put together the 63 piece puzzle. Team Cho came out with the fastest time yet slimmest of margins (seconds)... While at the same time, the other half competed in the now infamous Masked Bear blindfolded parallel parking challenge... Which had some people literally hanging out of their cars... Somehow, Team Ty was able to perform the task in record time (on the first attempt), taking with them the lead. Next was probably everyone's least favorite event...the 6GC quiz. The questions were designed so that anyone who was familiar with their car and 6GC.net would know the answers. Unfortunately the highest score on anyone's test was 3 correct answers...out of 10 I didn't know what to think as I was grading the quizzes... Penalties were awarded for every incorrect answer, and quickly it became apparent that almost all of the teams were racking up +8 minute penalties... The final event was the scavenger hunt, which proved to be the difference maker as most teams scored nearly the same throughout the other 3 events. Teams were required to take pictures of themselves in front of various objects and then race back to the start area. In this challenge, Team Ty came up big and returned with an astounding time that clinched the victory. The final results were Team Ty coming in first place, Team Benzo in second, and Team Tip placing a distant, but respectable third. And for those who braved the weather, withstood the tests, battled against the elements and time to make it to the end...there was the closing awards ceremony. [Insert pic here] With the awards all handed out, but with fading sunlight, we took the cars out the empty parking lot and (tried) to take pictures. For those who went, I'm sure they would tell you that it was a great meet (hey, check out the comments on this thread!). Those who missed or skipped out, you missed a good one. It wasn't your typical meet for sure, but it had all the required elements...cars, girls (haha, although they were all spoken for), food, fun, and prizes. Alot of time (and money) was spent to make sure that FotY would be a memorable meet AND to raise the bar for future meets so that old and new members will continue to come out and show support for 6GC and Celicas. Like I mentioned above, alot of thanks to everyone who made it possible by lending a hand or just showing up. So on behalf of the first official FotY meet organizers, thank you all for coming out and we'll be seeing you again soon!
