As soom of you know, I am the not proud owner of a 1989 Nissan Sentra. I love that car but Haysoos Kreesto it is one hell of a beater car.
It runs like a champ and has given me more miles then I thought it had left in it. I was thinking about making this a "project" car. I have an interview in a week or so and if I land this government job I will have some job security, thus I'll have some income and an ability to up my car. Was wondering if any nissan owners, or people who just know could give me some suggestions to do. What I have on my list as possibilities: A new Engine (it has nearly 140k on it and is looking at me saying "I'm ready to retire if your ok with that.") New Shocks (mine right now still have some life but I'm sure that at some point, 140k have taken its toll on it.) A new muffler (its starting to rust out and I'm concerned that I won't have enough back pressure to start the car soon) New hoses (I replaced some hoses a while ago, but honestly don't trust em too much) Replacing power steering if at all possible (it leaks, kind of a bitch to deal with oil stains) Upgrade brakes (drum breaks, last legs) Give him some new fluids (oil and power steering is always covered but I'm not quite sure when the last time I put any water, brake, transmission or any other.) Replace fuel pump? (I see people do that so I figure it must have some functionality) Clean the ****er (I am lazy so it is often dirty) Get new tires (one has a gash in it so bad that I am afraid to push it past 40.) What else should I do? If there are any people in my situation, I would absolutely appreciate advice on what to do, where to go, what to look at, who I should talk to, etc. Ty all, Peace! Quick note:
Well, this saga has come to what appears to be an end. Unfortunately, a trip to and from San Francisco has taken a toll on my car that I never thought would happen. The car's muffler has now just been destroyed. It still starts and runs, but I don't trust it with my life anymore because it is making horrible sounds, the interior smells like exhaust fumes, it feels like the shocks are just completely gone and it needs new fluids/air filter. At this point it would be more economical to call this car retired and sell it for scraps. I think this car has one more trip left in it before the problems overwhelm it. Which is too bad... as much as I and other people bagged and laughed at my car, I loved it. It was reliable and a great source of fun and I trusted it with my life totally. Now I wouldn't trust it to take me 20 miles without dieing (it was nearly dieing on interstate 80). I haven't gotten a mechanic to look at it yet, but I would suspect that it would cost an astronomical amount to fix it from its current state. I figured sell it to the guys who rip apart these cars and piece it out for parts, maybe make $300 for it. I'll just save up for a year and get me a brand new car (or a really amazing Celica ). -------------------- Brand new 6gc owner! (sort of 2011)
