I ended up decided to go pick up this 2nd gen 3sgte engine and trans this saturday. I'm going to bring my compression tester along and just make sure how that is. I'll be posting pictures up as soon as i get them. I hope all goes well.

The easiest way to differentiate between the two, think of it this way, C-commuter. S-sport. The C52 has longer gears for better highway MPG. The S53 has tighther clearances inside, and shorter "sportier" gearing. The S53 also takes ATF rather than regular gear oil like the C52. Yeah this is not accurate. All 5sfe "gt" 5th gens have an S53. Assuming its in good shape, it should work just fine.
