Where: Castaic Lake, California When: June 26th, 2010 Why: Because we need one grand summer meet a year! How: Brought to you buy the good people of 6GC *Update 5/4/10* Haha, somehow the first page got wiped clean, so I have to redo the updates again. Hopefully those of you who have followed the thread has got the info down already. The location has been reserved and paid for. The t-shirt designs are being finalized. Pictures of people's Celica have been collected. Model has been booked. Events are being finalized. Caravans being organized. Gee, have I forgotten anything? Well, that's what updates are for . *UPDATE 5/9/10* Okay, so all confirmed attendees (as of 5/9/10) can expect a free t-shirt plus one additional freebie. You can still show up to this event if you did not confirm, just don't be bummed out when you see the cool stuff you missed out on 'cause you were too lazy to send me a confirmation! A small lunch will be offered, drinks and snacks. I'll have to make up the itinerary again. *UPDATE 5/18/10* I've uploaded pics and the map of the place. There is a specific parking lot we want to hit before anyone/everyone else parks there. The park/bbq area I reserved is near lot #5. There's more than enough space for our +35 cars, but we still need to get there early to prevent other people from parking between all of us (early arrivers should "block" people from parking near them). Like I said before, there will be a lite lunch served (drinks, snacks). I'm still trying to find a place that can accommodate +40 people, so be patient. Hometown Buffet is the best place (so far) and it's about 15 miles away. A BBQ is still not out of the question as sunset is around 8PM so that would give us plenty of daylight to do some serious cooking...but I'd prefer a more relaxed setting for the closing part of the meet. Oh, and there IS a parking fee. I believe it's $8 (or something like that). So bring money you cheapo's! Lastly, all members who confirmed will be getting the free MotY t-shirt (and I think they kick serious arse). Those who show up (who didn't add themselves to the list) can get any left over shirts. The "premium" shirt will be sold for $12 at the meet. You can get one sent to you for $15 after the meet if you didn't bring money. Senior Tip is working diligently on making the final touches on it and I will post a pic of it as soon as he's done. Lastly, someone let the cat out of the bag about the...awards...at the end of the meet *cough* Andrew! *cough* *cough*. To those who didn't attend FotY, there were things that were handled out at the end of the meet who those who stuck around to the end (which was everyone!). This was intended as a "secret" bonus for people who showed up...but I might as well make a formal announcement of it now since this info was made known to some others already. Anyways, with little more than a month left before the (biggest) 6GC meet ever, let's all get ourselves and our cars ready. I'm looking forward to meeting each and everyone one personally (as well as their cars) *UPDATE 5/24/10* A few things. For those who are not familiar with Castaic (or not from SoCal), please be advised that it will be HOT. So plan on wearing comfortable clothing such as shirt/t-shirts, shorts, etc (jeans probably will be okay, ladies may wearing skirts but beware the howling winds). A hat would be a good idea too. But bring a sweater/jacket for the evening as it can get cold/windy. Considering the magnitude of this meet, we are going to skip the restaurant idea for dinner and instead go with a BBQ instead. There was too much complications with reserving enough spots for +30 people at a restaurant, coordinating the +30 car caravan to said restaurant, etc. So a BBQ is now being planned. Bring whatever you would like to share, but the core essentials will be handled by the event coordinators (drinks/supplies/food). At the last meet, the BBQ worked out fine, so we shouldn't have a problem this time around. In regards to the caravans, to those who would like to join in on the NorCal and SoCal caravans, if you can make it, that's fine. But logistically, if it is going to inconvenience you to join one of the caravan, it might just make more sense to start your own from your location. So far there's the NorCal one meeting up in Tracy. SoCal is meeting where the 405/5 meets (I believe it's near Burbank). But if you're in a place that just doesn't make sense to caravan, by all means arrive on your own (we promise not to make fun of you for being a loner). Finally, Castaic Lake is a large park that has a lot of activities. You can fish, there's a sandy beach, paths for biking, etc. So you can spend the entire day hanging around the meet area or wander off and do your own thing for awhile (although try to stick around so you don't miss out on the activities/announcements). Oh, and the 4 events are as follow - timed puzzle challenge - driving/parking skill challenge - 6GC/MotY quiz - scavenger hunt Itinerary: 11:00AM - 12:00 Registration/roll-in 12:00 - 1:30 Lunch/meet & greet/photos 1:30 - 4:00 Amazing "chase" 4:00 - 5:00 Cruise/photos 5:00 - 6:30PM Dinner BBQ/closing ceremony/raffle 6:30 - ??? *UPDATE 6/14/10* Things that will be provided (we will provide these for you): -drinks (water, soda, juice, ice) -food (chips, hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, fruit salad, buns/rolls) -plates/utensils/cups/napkins -cooking supplies (charcoal, lighter fluid, matches, spatula) What will not be provided (you should bring these yourselves): -sunblock -chairs -shade -camera 12 days to go... can we do it around may so its not too hot? Actually Summer is a good time, although I have been wanting to set up something official in June so it is sort of themed and always anticipated. 6gc in the 6th month (June). That way summer has kicked in, it isn't as hot as July or especially August (as we know cars tend to fail in the hotter seasons and long distance trips). Also, setting up a route on a time schedule will be helpful. Some of us tend to be late and it holds the rest of us back. From previous meets, most of us have ate up most of the day sitting in the parking lot waiting for everyone. This time, we want to get the most out of our meet. So we plan on setting up a mapped time schedule for the spots we will be hitting up, location, and the time we are expected to be there. That way if you are running late, you can meet up with the rest of everyone at one of those check points. Also, you will know exactly what we are doing and where we are doing it at, so there is no confusion. From previous meets, we have been waiting on people only to later have them call us back and say "Hey, just tell me when you get to the final spot", which sucks because everyone was waiting. This appears to be the best way to go about it, so approximate times given will help with the confusion. I recommend for any of you attending this meet to (once the final solution is posted), to make sure you copy and print the schedule to avoid confusion, take something to navigate or the numbers of people on here you can rely on in case you seek direction. I am really looking forward to this, as the days are longer in the summer, so we have plenty of time. can we do it around may so its not too hot? Some of us tend to be late and it holds the rest of us back. This coming from Faust? lmao...... But yeah, ummmm, honestly, plans are great and all but feels kinda rushed and almost never works out according to plan. I'm down for whatever, but flying by the seat of your pants and having a general guideline definitely worked great in the past(minus a few ppl holding us up by being late, hint hint). But that can be avoided by having a nice little general guideline Oh, and Derrick, my input and stuff is, are you going to try and do a "dry" meet? Us so-cal peeps like us some good alcohol, in moderation of course. If nothing else I could just mainline it and set up a nice IV drip behind my seat Anyways, if you have some not set in stone plans so far, why not share, that way majority can throw in some input and we can get a feel of what's going on through those heads and throw some ideas out there so everyone can feel they had some input in the meet other than just showing up. Plus, I agree with Chris on the whole Norcal plan theirs, with input of the other members, Socal plan theirs with input of other members. Just works better that way and it's kind of a cool way to have everyone active in this thing, it'll hold interests better than just, oh, this is what we are doing, show up, ya know? ..... And no initial meet at that Barnes and Noble in LBC. That was horrid. -------------------- |
