I always been wondering why they changed the engines in USA?. I dont recall if its the same 1.8 engine, But why did they make it 2.2 and only give it 130 hp?.
I meen, Why not just make the same engines everywhere, You should've had the 1.8 or 2.0 like in Japan and europa. But there has always been difference on USA's models compared the Japan / EU models.. Is it to reduce prices?, Legal reasons?. Someone help -------------------- 3SGE Driver :-)

I'm thinking a lot of cause of the emission not much safety. It was pretty easy for Toyota too cause the engines we got for the "Celica" were already offered in the Camry LE (2.2 5S-FE) & Corolla (1.8 7A-FE). The 3S-GTE was once offered here in the states for the 4-5th gen Celica's. Seeing that the 3rd gen 3S-GTE was more HP probably had worse emission standards than the 1 & 2nd gen 3S-GTE. I would guess the same would go for the 3S-GE as well. Also I heard too the US government limits the options and power to sway people to by American cars over foreign. I'm sure there is more to it though.
