My question... well more of a concern...
Since the day people invented a phone and then a cell phone and then a small cell phone.. .and then pda and then integrated pda into the cellphone and then integrated a video camera, an ipod, a photo camera, computing capacity and more... there has not really been a "need" to have any of it in one little package.. because realistically speaking...think about it.. they are out to get you guys and make you spend more money without even realizing it. Lets start with the basics. A pda costs somewhere in vicinity of 35 dollars but you dont "HAVE TO HAVE IT" because a good old notebook only costs 3.99 at walmart and does the job.. exactly the same job quite nicely. It did for 100+ years and does not depend on batteries. A phone with pda capabilities usually costs 50-250 dollars more than a simple phone that just makes calls. A digital video camera capable of taking high def videos costs not more than 200 bucks. A phone with video capabilities usually costs 100 dollars more than a simple phone that just makes calls. An ipod costs 30 dollars.. and frankly you DONT HAVE TO have a 250gb ipod. My 4gb nano that I bought way back when does the job nicely and when I am done listening to 1000 songs it can hold it takes me 4 minutes to replace entire contents of my ipod with new 1000 songs. A phone with mp3 capabilities usually costs 100 dollars more than a simple phone that just makes calls. A picture camera costs 100 bucks and takes like 10mp photos. A phone with same capabilities usually costs 100 dollars more than a simple phone that just makes calls. A computer.. well a really really really good laptop costs 1000 bucks and can play dvds, blu rays, has web cam, 250gb hard drive and every single thing that comes with it... And yet people feel that its better to spend 400 bucks on a thing that can do less things, but is more mobile and then be tricked into signing up for data plans, texting plans, internet plans, more minute plans at astronomical costs. My neighbor's phone bill is 120 bucks.. yes iphone replaced his laptop because he can check email on the go and yes iphone gave him capacity to permanently shelve his video camera and his photo camera and while all that is fine and dandy.. he.. like millions of people with iphones have developed a tick.. an obsession... an addiction to iphone. He checks it quite literally every minute and handles that phone rotating it between his sweaty palms.. and he has all kinds of gadgets for it.. like some goggles that allow him to watch movies and a thing to listen to music... wirelessly and I think he already spent like a thousand dollars on it.. easy. The question is why? Are we so socially incapable of picking up a regular phone and without texting a wall of text every second call our friends or acquaintances and ask legitimate questions, hold intelligent conversations... or perhaps even meet those people face to face?! I am all for technology.. after all I am a computer geek but everything is fine in moderation.. even the cellphones. -------------------- Captain Pessimist

The cost of a camera, laptop, mp3, radio, gps, exe. is going to cost much more then a phone that can do all of that. I payed 150 of my incredible an maybe 30 in apps so my total is 180 and I can do sooooo much more with that then I can with all of those other things. Lets take 1 of my favorite apps I have the Restaurant view finder, what this app does is I hold my camera up and it shows me all the restaurants that are around me and in a city I'm not affiliated with that comes in handy. |
