Has anyone actually done it? I'm not planning to do this as a permanent type thing; my car just sits too high. I just need to know if it's possible. And what you guys would recommend. Thanks!

To all you who say "you have to pay to play" and all that bull****: Have you guys ever cut your springs? Or are you just repeating what you read online? I'm still going to say show me some concrete proof why a small cut is dangerous. I want an accident report, pictures, whatever, not "I've heard it so many times so that means I know it's dangerous." And I'm not talking about some skunky Honda that a kid cut the springs in half so it would be "slammed." I'm talking about a car lowered 1-2". It's definitely less dangerous than some of you guys driving around on clunking wheel bearings and ball joints ready to fall apart at any moment. A lot of cars on the road have never had tie-rod ends or ball joints replaced even though they are worn, noisy and loose, I'd consider that a lot more dangerous than what is being discussed for springs ITT.
Some of the issues with springs jumping out of the struts aren't because the spring was too short, it was because they cut the flat side off the spring so it couldn't seat in the strut afterwards. Cut the bottom of the spring so it seats in the bottom of the strut and it's not going to go anywhere. People have done this for YEARS. Cutting springs on muscle cars, hot rods, motorcycles, etc when performance parts weren't available or were too expensive. Before I decided to cut mine I read a ton of articles and write-ups on how to properly cut them, where to cut, how to cut, how much to cut. Forums for everything from Mustangs to Lexus' to Hondas have actual decent info on how to do it properly (and a lot of ignorant ****s just repeating things they have no experience with). And again, I'm not saying to run out and cut your springs instead of buying lowering springs/coilovers. I can't wait to get a real suspension setup on my car. But since I knew I'd be replacing my struts anyways, why not have a little fun with them? Here's what you DON'T want to do. This was spring that was heated up with a torch to "compress" the spring, just deformed it. ![]() -------------------- 1999 Celica GT
