I was wondering what steps should be taken first before swapping out the cams in favor of some web ones. Right now all I have is intake, exhaust, and a centerfoce clutch. This summer I plan on adding a header, most likely custom unless some company gets off their a$$ and gets one done like hotshot performance is claming. Anyway would those mods be enough for a new cam or would I need to do a lot more to the block to get a nice performance gain out of the cams. If I get the cams I plan to get the mild ones so that my idle doesn't go all crazy on me, plus its,of course street driven. So what do you guys think, should I do it or will it be a waste of money?

Heheh... I am actually planning to do just that. As soon as I can find a donor car (either an AE92 [Corolla GTS] or AE82[Corolla FX-16]) I will start the project. I already purchased a spare 7A block already installed with 4AGE redtop high-comp pistons (10:3:1 compression ratio) and when in the 7A block mated with a performance built and modified small-port redtop head with the single runner non TVIS intake manifold, I would estimate compression to be around 10:5 to 11:0... Depending on the cam profiles I choose to run, this engine can potentially push 160-180 bhp with a nice torqueband around 130 ftlbs and an even nicer 7500 rpm redline (although that will probably be raised to 8000+)... Would make a good track n/a motor... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"
1995 AT200 Celica ST: stocked out daily driver... 1984 AE86 Corolla GT-SR5: silvertop 20V 4AGE project car jacked up with goodies... 1991 SW2x MR2 n/a: bare bones hardtop model soon to be... |
