So is there a reason so many people are getting holes in there engine block of their 5 sfe engine? Im starting to think so. This happened to 2 of my engines. Finally I tore apart the bottom end and found out that the number one piston connecting rod was shattered. This happened to me twice, and i am seeing it all over the internet. whats the deal?

yea, its really not all that common.

the most common causes for it are just really poor maintinence (not changing oil or maintaining good oil levels), although the last engine i saw do it was full when it happen, it had been previously abused.
