Okay so I have a 98GT with a 5S-FE in it. I'm looking to eventually put some power in it or do an engine swap in the future. For now I am sick of going down the high way cruising at almost 4K rpms.
I have read a lot about the E153 Tranny. I also was wondering if anyone has done an S51 swap as well. Basically to summarize what I think i know.. For E153: ST205 Mounts, Cables, and Linkage Axels- I have seen a lot of combos, i know if its out of an MR2 i need the same year inners, but i have seen that the E153 is in certain year solaras too. So could I use those inners, and for outters i see the 91 Camry seems to be most readily available. What is the Mr2 year bracket, 90-95? And anyone have any info in doing a S51 or if i even should consider it? Thanks a lot everyone! |

I just looked at the Wikipedia page. Given that we all know what the S54 an stand up to and how similar the S51 is to the S54... why would you swap? The S54 is bulletproof. You'll never have problems with it. That's like swapping a 5S-FE into your ST. You CAN do it, but it will cost you money and give you no real benefit. You'll lose some acceleration with the S51, but you'll have a higher top speed. So yes, you MIGHT be able to do 140, but it'll take you forever to get there. I would stay with your S54. You might be sick of cruising at 4k, but most low-power four cylinder cars are pulling similar RPM's.
