Between a 2nd gen and a 3rd gen?
1st gen = the engine from a USDM/JDM 4th Gen Celica GT4 -T-VIS -CT-26 Single entry Turbo [not very good either] -Not worth the effort - move on 2nd Gen = the 3S-GTE out of a 5th Gen Celica GT4 or USDM [and older JDM] MR2T's -T-VIS [Which I personally love but it's an aquired taste for some] -CT-26 Dual Entry Turbo -AFM -Cheaper -parts available locally at parts houses 3rd Gen = the 3S-GTE out of a JDM 6th Gen Celica GT4 or a JDM '94+ MR2T [never sold in North America] -No T-VIS -CT-20b Turbo -Map Based -Updated electronics -more expensive [but worth it] -some parts can be harder to find but getting better every day 4th Gen = The 3S-GTE out of a JDM Caldina GT-T or GT4 -Coil Over Plug distributer-less Ignition -One peice Turbo similar to CT-20b -Map Based -Modern electronics minus drive by wire BS -EXPENSIVE -Parts are hard to find - period There is a HELL of alot more to it but that should get you started in your search. This Wikipedia article should be your first general introduction then read through the FI section of this forum and MR2oc.com/Altrac.net for more specific info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3s-gte http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-VIS If you want a stockish engine and want the most out of it you want a 3rd gen but you're gonna have to raise your price range by quite a bit. If you intend to build it for medium to high HP it really makes very little difference. If you intend to build it for medium to high HP it really makes very little difference. so let me get this straight. i checked out those articles and did some research. the third gen is just the second gen with a t20 instead of a t26? i know there's other differences but thats the big one? i have a 94 GT with the 5sfe with wayyyy to many miles and its about time to swap it. im in the process right now of building a tranny out of a 95 GT to compliment the 100 something HP upgrade. if ur within 200 miles of west arkansas ill come get the engine and hand you a thousand dollars cash on the spot. provided an inspection of the engine satisfies me -------------------- I went full retard once, too. The GT tranny can hold up to, if I remember correct, 250hp. Which would work if you don't plan on building the engine much. Depending on how much you build the GT tranny, yes it would be better than the E153. What exactly are your plans though? We can can all easily help you out then This post has been edited by mkernz22: Jan 16, 2011 - 11:34 AM |
