Heya,
I've been wondering about doing this conversion for a while now... I have a complete SSII sat in my drive. The Mcpherson on my car is in need of some TLC and thought i'd give transplanting it off the doner a go instead. Just wondering if someone can help me with a few things. Most information out there seems to be going the other way, from SS to McP. I've heard mixed things on if i need to remove the whole steering rack and put that in as well, some people seem to say the tie rods are shorter on the SS setup. Just from looking at it i can't really see a big difference. Also looking to slap the twin pots onto the front, guessing that will go with no issues? The only thing that concerns me is the spline on the driveshafts, do i need to use the shafts from the old car as well? Thanks for any help you can give me, feel free to call me mad for wanting to do this as well. -nix |

Pretty sure it does have an e56, but its knackered... can't get it to engage into 5th or reverse, not really in the frame of mind to get a 'box refurbed. Used to have a SSII on the road, and if memory serves getting clutches can go into some serious money for them so would prefer to use the UKDM gearbox anyway.
Did the SS3 have the same gearbox and superstrut then? that would certainly save trying to find somewhere to modify/fabricate the shafts to fit. Can say with some certainty that the doner SSII has a slippy diff, from what i can tell its got all the factory extras from superstrut to 'leccy folding mirrors. |
