There are bad, evil, rubbing/grinding noises (sounds dirty heh heh) coming from my rear passenger wheel. Actually it sounds like the backing plate is rubbing against the rotor, but I'm pretty certain that's not what's going on. The sound is definitely related to the rotation of the wheel; it's louder when I go slower too although that could just be because there's less road noise to drown out the sound. The noise sounds not unlike when brake pads are completely worn and it's metal on metal - it's that grinding noise, not a squealing or high pitched noise at all. It's really loud from the driver's side though, I can only imagine what it sounds like outside the car!
I'm leaning toward bad wheel bearing but I wanted to check with you guys first to get some tips and ideas before I go buying the wrong part. This post has been edited by GriffGirl: Feb 2, 2009 - 12:11 PM -------------------- |

this happends to all celicas!!! and we still don't know what that noise is in the back lol its really annoying.does anyone elses stop when you brake? I have the same rattling noise coming from the right rear. It sounds as though it is coming from inside the car. I have checked every suggestion on this thread and still have not found the source. The brake and suspension systems are all fine. Calipers and pads were replaced at a recent brake job, still there. E-brake components are fine. Struts and sway bar all check out to be solid. I previously posted under 'interior/audio/electrical ' (http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=77378) because I believe the rattle is coming from inside. If anyone has a similar proble and found the cause, I would appreciate your in put. Thanks in advance I have a '98 and '94 Celica GT. I bought the '94 2 years ago and it had a slight rattle which comes from the back area. It has gotten worse lately and even though it sounds like it's coming from inside, I can't find what is causing it. My '98 has started with the same sound just recently. I've had the suspension and under side of both cars checked by my mechanic. All is in order underneath with nothing loose. The suspension and exhaust systems on both cars are solid. Has anyone had a similar problem and found the cause/solution? Thanks in advance. My wife's '94 is starting to make the same noise. Her car is a GT coupe with only 64,000 miles on it. It is not as loud or noticeable as mine is. -------------------- |
