The other day I cleaned of my brakes before touching up the paint on the calipers.
I sprayed the entire brake assembly(calipers, and rotors) with brake cleaner, let it sit for a few minutes, then wiped it off.
I also washed them a couple hours later with the hose.
A few days later I see that my rotors are covered in surface rust, so I took some steel wool, and that took the rust off.
The next day or so, the rust i back again.

Anyone ever had this problem before?
My car is sitting on jackstands outside with no wheels on right now while I wait for my new struts to come.

more so probably the washed them off with the hose part. If you're super worried then put some plastic shopping bags over them. Like everyone else says, first few times you use the brakes it'll rub right off and in about a days worth of driving everything is normal.
