The best fuel here in CA is 95 ron. California used to be equipped with 98 ron fuel like every other state in the USA until 1991. 3SGE Beams Redtop Motor that requires < 98 ron and for it too run at 100%. Some are say, use 95 ron and ECU will retard timing.Running 95 ron on beams motor feels a bit sluggish.
Racing Fuel cost $9-10 a gallon here in Southern California with 76 gas stations carrying it. Here is List of Gas Stations in California (not updated) calculator found here http://www.serioussolutions.com/evo/octcalc.htm Calculations as follow : 9 gallons of 91 octane ($3.25 per gal) + 5 gallons of 100 octane ($9.99 per gal) = 14 gal mixture of 94 octane (overall total = $79.20) For those of you who go to the track or raising boost levels. The engine has never seemed to knock with 91 octane, but im sure timing is being pulled. A dyno graph with current mods with 91 octane and a 94 octane mixture would be best to see if it actually help... Now I know that most if not all gas station in California contain up to 6% ethanol blend in the 95 ron fuel for emissions. I just read on ethanol.org that all vehicles are "ethanol-capable" and can use a blend of up to 10% ethanol. Since the 1980s all automakers have covered up to 10% ethanol-blended fuel by warranty, no engine modifications necessary. It is by law, supposed to label how much ethanol blend is in the gas all California use at the pump, which is something i'll check out when I leave the house in a bit Now mixing E85 ethanol with 95 ron fuel is what I'm after. E85 contains 85% ethanol and 15% fuel which is mainly used on flex fuel vehicles and cars that have been modified to run e85. By modified I mean new fuel lines and what not so that it does eat away at the rubber. E85 is cheaper than 108 ron racing fuel. In fact its about 50 cents cheaper per gallon than 95 ron. E85 is rated at 110-115 ron depending on the mixture. Tell me what you guys think. I also read something on it decreasing fuel mileage by about 10%. Now when I do or if it's safe to do so, mixing 4 gallons in a full tank of gas to achieve my goal of 100 ron mixture shouldn't really affect fuel mileage right? thoughts on mixing e85 with 91 octane???
