hey guys, at my local junkyard i can pick up an s54 with 140k on it for 75 bucks, i was thinking about doing it and possibly getting it rebuilt or adding a limited slip.
what do you guys think on this price? what does a manual transmission rebuild involve (changing the gears?) and do you think its worth it to take on a project like this? there would be no time crunch and id have plenty of time to learn since i have a working tranny on my car right now. do you think this could be a cheaper option than a e153 from an mr2 + axles + limited slip if i dont find one in it? im not looking for much, i probably wouldnt even buy stronger gears, just maybe add a differential and rebuild it so it would shift like new. most of you know the car is still for sale but ive been considering keeping it now that i have a job and since it is only a few days a week and walkable from my apartment i might be able to do some extreme overhaulin this summer. this is just one of the ideas i am throwing around. the tranny has been sittin out in the elements for who knows how long, but it wasnt rusted, had a working clutch in it and all the gears clicked, we know this cause we clicked around with the forks and pressed on the slave cylinder and fluid shot out! haha. thanks for the input -brian |

it was done at that shop back in 2007 you think they will remember! Yes I know the only way to find out is to open up the transmission. Damn I should of done speed runs/recorded some videos with my original s54 that came with the engine and with my new transmission. Hmm time to hit the books and learn how to take apart my own transmission and put it back together.
