You can cut the harness off of the ends of the amp on both sides, ive put them in boats and what not with decks that werent alpine. All it is is a high level input that uses the 12v (+) to power the high efficiency amplifier. It voids the warranty, but they are a solid design and ive never had a problem with any of them or even my PDX amp. I recommend them to anyone, theyre excellent.

njccmd2002, the type-r's will need an amp with an actual power cable from the battery to give you the "bump" youre looking for... Theyre not as efficient as the type-s speakers. I have the type-x pros run active and biamped at 300 w/channel. They want more... I think that youll want to run them AT recommended RMS or slightly above to get the results youre looking for. As you go up the ladder on Alpine drivers, they get to want more and more power for any amount of sound. I lost about 10 dB when i went from a 4 channel Infinity setup to a 2 channel Alpine setup.
Honestly, ive had better results with Infinity Kappa components. The woven glass cones are stiff and light. They give tight bass response on Alpine decks (I run Pioneer, theyre cleaner, but the bass is cut to 1/3 of my original Alpine). They are also a 2 ohm voice coil, so they will run okay with your current setup at ~50 watts RMS. If you step it up, i ran 140 RMS to them and they can really rock. Sadly, i like the Kappas more than my current setup, but the Type-X is a cleaner driver with an audiophile grade scanspeak tweeter. I cant say enough about the Kappas. Id do them over the Type-R's any day of the week.
