I recently replaced my alternator last month and I have noticed a decrese in fuel economy.

Do Alternators affect fuel economy in any way? This is assuming that no other factors are changed like tire pressure or tune up.

Thanks

The alternator runs off of your engines power. Just like EVERYTHING else in, on, or attached to your car.

Add weight, lights, system, roof rack, etc will affect MPG.

A new alternator has tighter bearings = more drag on the engine. Or maybe it has a lower efficiency which means it takes more torque to produce the same amount of amps.

I wouldn't expect a noticeable drop in MPG though. maybe 1 at the most. was the belt over tightened? That will cause unneeded drag. Are you sure nothing else changed?
