I have never seen a 1MZ that was anywhere near 1600 - 2000. I got mine with 90k confirmed miles with all accessories for $750. If you're buying one of the newer 1MZ's (97+) then maybe, but it's a newer motor, it's lighter, and ultimately more delicate than the 3VZ. If your build plans involve turbo, then 3VZ is your best bet. If you're going to stay n/a or a TRD S/C then 1MZ - specifically the 97+ because it becomes PnP. have MR220V do up a harness, mate it to a S54 to retain axles, have a passenger mount fabricated, bolt in, plug in, and away you go. The newer version of the 1MZ have ~190whp. They go up to just under 250 with the factory s/c and no other supporting modifications. Add in headers (a major bottleneck on the 1MZ), intake, exhaust, Walbro or Supra fuel pump, and potentially a standalone EMS down the road and you've got yourself set for a reliable low maintenance powerhouse.
Of course it's always better when it's not FWD... ![]() -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

I must have been searching for the engine using a different car like the lexus. 3VZ would deffinatly be best for the turbo. I haven't heard any good things about the supercharger for the 1mz even though it was a genuine TRD. I plan on staying NA so the lightness and newness of the 3MZ appeals to me. What have you heard obout the oil gelling issue with the 1MZ? That's the only thing holding me back from that engine. Sorry for the thread jack but I think more discussion about the V6 swap is a good thing. Another note about the trany. The 3VZ/E53 combo was in larger and heavier cars. I'm no engineer but using the S54 in the Celica should do ok for a while. |

There is a Toyota junkyard near my place and I am friends with the owner's son... so if I need things that is where I go. When I tore mine down there wasn't any sludge in it. Keep up on oil changes and you'll never have the problem. The TRD supercharger is good for small power gains. For anything else you would want to get a custom Eaton M90. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money
