My tranny started popping out of 3rd and 5th a few weeks ago, and my mechanic said the synchro was bad. Basically, I'm looking at a rebuild, which makes me wonder if I should replace my 176k mile 7A-FE simultaneously. What would I need to get a 3S-GTE into my ST?

more than you can afford pal, i love that quote... anyways it will be cheaper to rebuild your 7A. follow my assembly guide.

true a rebuild may be cheaper but dallas jdm motors had a 4th gen 3sgte for under a grand a few weeks ago i bet you can haggle a bit and have them drop it off for you free since your only like half an hour away.

as far as bang for the buck if you can turn your own wrench and read a wiring diagram a 3sgte may be in your future

check out eastern pros threads. a lot of good 4th gen info there

peace
