My tranny started popping out of 3rd and 5th a few weeks ago, and my mechanic said the synchro was bad. Basically, I'm looking at a rebuild, which makes me wonder if I should replace my 176k mile 7A-FE simultaneously. What would I need to get a 3S-GTE into my ST?

Are you wanting to rebuild the 3s that you want to buy, or are you just going to install it?

If you're just going to install it you need to purchase GT engine mounts, wire loom, extra 12/14 gauge wiring, oil,oil filter, coolant, spark plugs, rotor cap, rotor button, spark plug wires....and some electrical/mechanical skills.

You could probably get away with a swap for around 3500...

If you want to rebuild...

You would need to add pistons, rods, bearing, and all needed seals...

This would cost you a minimum of 6000...

i may be mistaken but i think the options he's considering are install a 3s or break apart and rebuild the 7a while his tranny is in the shop.
