Hi all as some of you know Ive been having problems building boost, come to find out its the wastegate. From what i can tell the rod is somewhat bent but im not getting ANY boost all around.

my question is does anybody know of the differences between wastegates between the 3rd adn 4th gen 3sgte? I have a wastegate from my old ct20b but the rod is different....

here is a pic of what im talking about

this is off my old 4th gen turbo^^^

and this is what i currently have on my 4th gen now.

Ive been offered a w/g but before i buy that one, i want to be sure i can use the one i have, and if all else fails, my friend said he has a forge internal W/G I can use... but idk.

thanks!

You want power but have no money. That's a problem.

all the rod does is open the flapper from the acutator. its possible that you are not building boost because the wastegate is damaged internally in the turbo

I believe this is true. I can move the actuator by hand, sticking a tool in to push it. just not sure how the w/g got damaged

the wastegates are microscopic, im sure you could remove the flap and the actuator and still build boost ... ??? when i had stock turbo i was hitting 1.2bar with creep & overboost

maybe the blades shot out the exhaust?

nah, when i took the dp off there was no missing/messed up blades and no shaft play

Matt, I thought you had this sorted out?

If your turbo is making at least 5psi in 4th gear, on the highway then everything is working correctly and you just need to install/setup a boost controller for more boost.

Stock wastegate is setup at 7psi, but that number should be taken with a grain of salt as it depends a lot on weather conditions and most importatnly the accuracy of your boost gauge. Most gauges can read between 1-3 psi from where they should be.

From what I remember, my ct20b has the same slight bend in the rod. It comes like that from the factory.

thanks lagos! Im with you 100% but the very next day after you told me this, the boost went away. would not build at all. then today, RANDOMLY would build up to 2psi then eventually died to no boost at all.

as far as the bend, i just wanted to be sure. that rod with the bend in it is from ninja turtle 1 motor (before i put the T4 on it) but i was unsure becasue the jackasses at southern car customs separated my turbo from my manifold for some weird reason, so i wasnt sure if they were fcuking around with it.

I will test my old ct20b wastegate, then if its no good, i'll use my friends forge w/g.

thanks for the pointers! will keep you guys updated!
