Filled up yesterday. Got home & noticed a strong gas smell in the gas tank area.
Is there a " History " of the tanks getting rusted out in any certain areas or connections // fittings going bad? Before I take it to the shop & put on a lift, it would be good to have the info. I'll check the filler neck areas, fuel line connections // fittings, lines & hoses, & sending unit mount area. Any thing I'm forgetting? Thanks for any tips! |

When this happens the vent on the gas tank has a tendency to get stuck open, and you will smell a strong gas smell. A very good indicator to whether or not this is happening is if you have trouble filling up your gas tank. The gas nozzle would keep shutting off as if the gas tank is full, but you know that it is empty and you are confused why gas won't go in. This is because there are charcoal bits in the filler neck keeping the gas from going in as it is supposed to. I saw this problem on a camry once, other than that I have only seen it on kia's and hyundai's, I've never heard of the celicas having this problem, but you never know. I'm not saying this is your problem, I'm just saying that it is something to look into. -------------------- -Jay
