I was burning oil and I had 1500 miles til 3k mark on my oil change. So I was driving car shut down battery light and check engine light simultaneously came on. I pulled to the side and parked. I was able to drive about 5mph home at 3 am no problem. Filled it up with oil hoping no damage was done. I dont know if its rod knock or a spun bearing?? I have a video I can post more if needed. Of course the mechanic trying to screw me didnt even tell me the problem he said new engine. And said 2k I said hell no I could buy a new celica for that much etc. But this is my first car and I love the hell out of it. How much do you think it'd be to repair this. Im willing to do a rebuilt engine. I weighed out the pros and cons. Fixing this car is gonna be cheaper than buying another used car with a whole new set of problems. Plus I have brand new dunlop tires (insult to injury right??) I mean the car is pretty decent my fenders are dented and the paint is looking bad. The car could easily look brand new for 1k of body work I could do in my garage with some plastidip and a day of my friends helping me. So any ways heres the vid tell me what you think.. Thanks in advance it I'm willing to do an engine rebuild if the price is reasonable. (if anyone knows a ballpark number)

that is rod knock, your crankshaft and the rod needs to be replaced. along with the bearings. a replacement engine should only cost about 500, its the labor that will eat you up. you could rebuild it. then you will have a good fresh engine. but that will cost more than 500 in parts. then there is more labor.
