Ok someone please help me I'm at a loss here. Pretty much every time I start my car it makes a rattling noise, also when I get up to about 3000rpm it makes the same noise until I shift or left off the gas and let the R's go down a bit. Anyone else have or had this problem and know what it might be? I pulled the valve cover to see if my valves are adjustable...they are not. I have the 1.8L 7AFE motor. Please anything would be appreciated. I have to get this motor to last at leaset until tax time so I can get my 3SGTE...

the noise, is it coming from the top of the engine (the head) or from the lower block? Mine make noise from the block cause it has a bad rod bearing in it.

I also am having the same noise on my 7afe... Its quiets down a little after oil changes but not completely. It also has 210k on so i figured the motors soon at the end of its time and soon its time for a rebuild due to lack of being maintained properly by previous owners ya mine has 200k+ on it as well I know it shouldn't be rod knock though because it's been making this noise for almost a year and I know it's stupid but I still rape on it pretty much everywhere I go. Figure if it pops it pops but it hasn't but I'm getting tired of hearing this noise now. So I just want to know what would be the quickest, easiest way to fix this... |

I'm thinking its an internal engine noise... Best thing I would do is tear it down for a rebuild -------------------- 1994 ST204- 5sfe Currently being rebuilt 1994 AT200-Awaiting Build |

That's not a bad idea at all! There are some nice horsepower numbers in the forced induction dyno sticky on oem boosted 5sfe's! There is a little bit of work you have to do to fit an S series engine into a A series car but it has been done before and you can also find that on here in the stickys! I am rebuilding a 5s as of right now and also thinking of boosting it when I get some miles on the fresh engine -------------------- 1994 ST204- 5sfe Currently being rebuilt 1994 AT200-Awaiting Build |
