What you see is the copper wire that makes up the Hall Effect pickup. There is normally a bit of plastic that protects the coil of wire which left us on the track. With that gone, a bit of wire must have snuck out and quickly was collected by the distributor. The coil was collateral damage as you can see it popped.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but the distributor on my daughter's GT looks just like that mess. The funny thing is, it died once, but I was able to start it again and drive it with just an intermittent miss. I can't believe it still ran after seeing that wire spaghetti. Is this common with these distributors?
