So I'm only using my distributor for the pickup that is inside it since I have the Autronic SM4 EMS and the Jetta 1.8T individual coils. Yesterday I took off the distributor cap and rotor to see if I can modify my current cap so most of the distributor cap is out of the way. If I hack it up and seal it off with silicone and a round plastic disk then it might look a little bad, but it will still mount and be the correct size. I've also thought about finding a clear plastic cup that is a hair over 3" and hacking it up, but then heat becomes an issue. I really want to get this bulky distributor out of the way. Does anyone have any ideas other than what I mentioned?

Convert it to a crank trigger wheel.

In the meantime you can probably put the cap on upside down so that the plug holes point down. That would look better.

I tried turning it upside down, that was the first thing I tried. It bumps the heater hose on the coolant neck, and it won't fit on upside down anyway because the mount hole is offset.
