Ok i discovered and learned a lesson on replacing a 7A-FE engine in your ST Celica. Pre ODBII engines did NOT have a crank position sensor. Im assuming that in 96 is when Toyota added the crank position sensor. SO.... if you ever have to replace your engine and you go out and get another 7A-FE from a corolla or earlier Celica. It will do the job, but you have to replace the oil pump. Now you can use your oil pump if you want to but i suggest getting a new one, and while you are at it, a new water pump and timing belt since you are in there. Oh that reminds me, you also have to use the crank gear for the timing belt from the 96+ car. it has larger teeth for the sensor to pick up on.

94 oil pump, no crank position sensor.

96+ oil pump with crank position sensor mount.

ill add pics of the crankshaft gear tonight to show the difference there.
