JDM Tails, A couple of questions Options

Sorry if this has been answered, I went for a search but the best I could find where either posts about "where can I get JDM taillights" or "pics of my JDM taillights".

I have a couple of questions which might be helpful to those (like me) who would like some info on the late spec JDM Tails.

1. I heard on here (sorry, don't know the link) that one reason that these lights are not DOT approved is that they do not have a visible reflector from the side (like those reflector things on bike spokes) as this spot is occupied by the clear & amber sidemarker lens. Is there really no reflector panel on the side (ie the edges of the taillights that curve around)?

2. At night, if the lights are on but the brakes are not applied, do the tailights light up (lower brightness than when brakes are applied)? I've only seen pics where brakes are applied, so I'd thought I'd clarify just in case.

3. If you install JDM tails, does the middle brake light still light up? Some pics (http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=23764) have the middle brake light not lighting up.
