Anybody considering doing the front brake swap from the 7th gen should read this... considering I beat the hell outta my car, and I'm starting to rack up the miles, and it's getting about time to think about doing my brakes again, I figured, hey why not replace the calipers before I need 2... so while im at it.. why not use the 7th gens parts. Seemed harmless till I acctually tried to order the parts.... according to Advance Auto parts computers, from 2000 n up the 7th gen gts use the same caliper... but theres a slight variation in the part numbers for the semi-loaded calipers (caliper with bracket) thru the years.....
the 1st one on the left is from the 2000 model.... the middle is for my 97 GT.... and the one on the right is from a 2003 GTS.... I'm using the one from the 2003 because it seems 2 give the most room n still line up, as I'm not sure if there will be any kind of interference... here is a closer look at the difference in the brackets between the 2000 and 2003 The part numbers for the 2003 (the caliper on the right) are Cardone: 19-B2580A 19-B2581A and can be bought at n e Advance, or at least interchanged at n e other self respecting part store... I think I also read somewhere on here that this only works for an ST... or that the GT brakes are the same size as the 7th gen, but this is wrong, as there were both rotors in stock n I definatly pulled out the tape measure..... |
