Hey all,
I am just getting to the end of a rebuild on my 7AFE in my 95 ST. Just did a total stock rebuild with new main and rod bearings, new rings, all new gaskets, new water pump, new thermostat and new valve stem seals (all stock). I have just put the engine back in the car and she starts up just fine and maintains idle @ 800 rpm with no weird noises or anything sounding unusual. With the timing light on cylinder 1, the timing is dead on. When I open the throttle and hold it steady, the engine starts to hesitate almost to the point of stalling, the engine also vibrates hard enough to feel it in the steering wheel and pedals. At this point, I put the timing light on the other cylinders and it seems that cylinder 3 is misfiring. I pulled the spark plugs and replaced them, same problem, I also switched the wires between cylinder three and four to test the wire that was previously running to cylinder 3. The wire from cylinder 3 (now one cylinder 4) showed no misfires. I noticed that when you push the connector between the spark plug wire and the dizzy the cylinder misfires less often. I know this automatically sounds like a distributor problem. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar/same issue that could give me some other leads into possible causes. Oh btw, checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner, and none were found. I also put my hand over the throttle body to see if the motor was getting air any other place besides the TB and immediately when my hand was over it, the car stalled, meaning no vacuum leaks. Just looking for some other ideas. There are no check engine codes whatsoever, and I'm not sure what could cause such a constant misfire that wouldn't throw a code.
