Well after much over due time the Tom's brakelines are now installed. Had toyota do the cv boot - and new gearbox oil while the axle was removed. and install the lines at the same time, without me worrying about rounding off the nuts on the hard lines. The manager there was quite impressed with the fact they were tom's brakelines and that they were new.

straight away have noticed a significant difference. It feels very direct, the sponginess is gone. If your looking at doing a brake upgrade, SS brakelines should definitely be on your list smile.gif

also a new package arrived from toyota today.

inside, maintenance things
new side visors to replace the cracked one
dizzy
rotor
sparkplugs
replacement trd oil filter

and also 2 free tickets to a racing event here in NZ smile.gif

It's interesting to hear that the SS brake lines have made a noticeable improvement Rusty. I may have to add that mod to my wish list for 2013.

I may have missed it elsewhere in your thread, but where did you source them from?

When I converted from the single-piston callipers to the twin-piston callipers I had to use the brake lines from the twins as the original lines weren't long enough. I guess I'd have to make sure I sourced the lines designed for an SS-II then? Hmm....

Nice work though. smile.gif

definitely worth it. Sourced from a japanese online auction, but I think RHDJapan had a few brands listed on there website

Mmm yes when I was inspecting my factory caliper to try and install the lines myself, I noticed the mounting point for the line on the caliper was on a slight angle, where as the twins were flat. the new lines look like they will reach, as I placed them next to the old ones, and they looked slightly longer- but could be wrong, just have to find some spare time to see how it goes.

customer loyalty maybe?

all in good time, calm down.

whats the issue with the brake lines. i mean its a caliper mounted to the same point? is the brake line located much further south of the original single piston caliper?? is it longer by an inch???

distance from the strut mount to the caliper mount is a bit longer.
the single pot is on a slight angle and sits out, the twins are flat and sit closer.

I test fitted with the old line and doesn't hit the caliper (red dot) as long as I turn it slightly - which inturn requires more hose lenght to reach

paint ftw

What can I say? Apart from the running gear (not beams or turbo tongue.gif) this car is absolutely perfect! Looks stunning.

I just read through this full thread in one sitting (I have read bits and pieces in the past, but never the full thing), and I have admired your dedication to this build, and sticking to your original goals for the car.

You have done pretty much all the mods I am currently saving for, and all with New OEM parts! I may have missed it, but may I ask where you ordered your TRD Quick Shifter from? I have been looking, but they do not appear to be very common any more.

Also, you may be able to help me with a question I posed this afternoon in exterior styling; do the rain guards actually do anything or are they just for looks? I am getting sick of all the drips coming straight into the cabin whenever there has been any water sitting on the car tongue.gif

Again, congrats mate on an absolutely epic 6GC!

I see this engine as a good starting platform for NA building, each to their own regarding engine swaps, if I wanted a beams ST202 or a GT-Four I can easily get my hands on them here anyway. or a v6 an FTO...

Yeah it is a bit of a read, glad you enjoyed it.

Almost all are new a couple of things are 2nd hand but are in near new condition - like the trd interior pieces. I'm pretty sure I was one of the last to get a brand new TRD quickshifter set before it went discontinued which I got for ~NZ 300 I think? went through Toyota NZ for it. I've seen 1 brand new set here for sale here in NZ for NZ$550

Well at the moment I have 1 rain/splash guard on the right side and none on the left, as one was cracked so I ordered a new set to replace (still haven't got round to replacing it yet), cheaper than what we have listed here on the website. But haven't been able to test it out as we haven't had rain here going on 4 months now in the north island of NZ (where I am) had been declared a draught. To answer question, looks way better style wise, effectiveness, due to their size and angle doesn't stop a whole lot to be honest.

cheers, appreciate the comments

I know you can get them, it frustrates me to no end that you have them all down there and we don't have any! tongue.gif But I respect your decision, and that is part of what makes this build yours, and unique.

Thanks for that info. I ended up finding some NOS last night too, but at similar inflated pricing frown.gif

Your car is pretty much perfect now, so theoretically you should be almost done (*smile*), but keep up the good work smile.gif

thanks guys,

little update on the Celica I did a week ago.

Unbolted & pulled the single pot caliper off, with the line still attached (huge in comparison to the twin pots and GT4 pots), fitted the twin pot SS-II caliper, not clearance or offset issues. Using my old line connected it to the strut and to see if it would reach the caliper......... nope. I'd say the line is about a good 2-3 cm too short.

So in the end, using the single pot calipers still, but with TRD black pads. Its a shame the calipers didn't fit, as they were rebuilt and painted, I'm still interests in fitting them, so what I might do down the line is getting some longer SS lines for the front, off MRP.

And since I no longer need them, I'm also selling the GT4 brakes (locally though)

Curious what made you decide the twin pot cali over the gt4 if you have??? I was wondering do you feel it makes a diffrence or not really ???

I'm asking cause I have the GT4 Brakes but now lol wondering is it worth the effort to put in. it is kinda expensive to maintain

well, found the tom's lines and thought some pads and twin pot calipers would be very nice and driveable. the GT4 brakes are massive, heavy, look awesome and from my experience in TRDGT4 stop very very well. Yes I can source parts (someone in NZ sells the trimmed ST205 300mm rotors but in 4x100), pads and brakelines. But its the other things like the dust shields and other little things like the space saver tyre fitting etc I also have thought about that bug me, however the main one for me really is safety. Yes people have done the swap and showed it works etc (well done btw) But at the end of the day I'm not running a 3S-GTE, a 300hp NA 2L 3S-GE ( wink.gif ) or see regular track days, so its not a necessity for me to have. And if I sold them I could use the money to fund other future parts, such as..... biggrin.gif

cheers slo_celly, I think my build thread has helped inspire others with ideas over the years. Its been a while since I've done a phootshoot of my car, so might get out some day soon and do one smile.gif

^Would love to see another shoot smile.gif

And your car is in the process of converting me to SSIII front splitters instead of the euros I've already bought, and has convinced me to buy a TRD spoiler (Although it won't go on for a while tongue.gif).... You have a very epic build biggrin.gif
