Before you read on, know that I've worked with 94-95 leather and cloth seats, along with 96-99 cloth seats. I didn't get to play with 96-99 leather seats (cushions), but only leather covers from 96-99. The following is a comparison between the 94-95 seats and the 96-99 seats.
1. The tops/bottoms are not interchangeable. Neither are the rails. They're all completely different. 2. 96-99 seats are taller, heavier, and have more cushion. Which means the earlier seats are lighter, shorter, and thinner. The later seats actually "sit" higher from my experience, too. 3. Leather covers from 96-99 seats will fit on cloth seat cushions from 96-99 seats with more padding. I wouldn't suggest leather 96-99 covers on earlier seats as the cushions are taller on the later seats. 4. If you're switching seats, you'll also need to switch the seat belt latch mechanisms (the part connected to the seat with the "press" button). The wiring harnesses are slightly different. 5. Finally, if you happen to get an amazing deal on 94-95 covers and plan to put them in your 96-99 car, you'll absolutely need 94-95 seats. But at least you'll be saving weight! Hope that helps guys! |

Hi,
Will the 97 seats and frame bolt in to where the 95 seats/frame are located? Also, my 95 driver side is top section is worn near the door from entry. I found a matching seat but from a passenger side, can I swap the top part of the passenger with the drive side? This post has been edited by homebuilder: Feb 2, 2013 - 6:51 PM |

Yes, the seats all bolt down exactly the same. However, the seat belts and buckles are different, so you'll want to keep your seat belt latches. You can swap the backs of the seats over, but it's a bit tricky to put the seat recline function back together. At least it was for me, so I ended up buying new seats.

Thanks so much!
I may swap out for a newer version of the seats. I was also wondering if any other seats bolt in place? Any other Toyota or Lexus seats? any others options? From a cursory glance, it looks like the seats sit on rails and have only four bolts holding them down. I may be missing something... but my thought was there may be other toyotas/lexus that have the same rails, or at least the same bolt patterns to bolt other rails in place. Any swap info would be greatly appreciated! |

I used the bottom half from a 5th gen Celica because the top half is only held on with one bolt whereas ours is two as you can see on the right:
I have 94-95 seats and the holes from the 5th gen mounted up almost flawlessly, had to drill one hole I think it was on the passenger seat. The top half of the drivers seat is thrahsed now, it looks terrible, I really want to find 96-99 seats to match my 96-99 bumper lol. I also took black fabric spray paint and sprayed the bottoms to sorta match(not shown in pictures). Word of warning it makes the cushions not soft to the touch anymore even after frequent use. I realize this an uber old post but are there any seats that will bolt into our celicas from other toyotas or anything?

I noticed the weirdest thing, my 97 at200 seats bolts directly to my 94 st205. Only the seatbelt buckle is different.

It's only how the seats mount to the rails and the seat belts/buckles that changed. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates.
