Well I'm getting bored of my car. I want to to be faster, and just more fun and rewarding to drive. I want to know if there's anything I can do to improve it to keep my interest in the car. Having a standard would definitely keep you more interested in the Celica. Buying an automatic was your first mistake I swapped mine from auto to manual and now I never get bored of her. No matter how slow and under powered she might be, no matter how many problems might occur from her age, and no matter how bored of her I might get when I'm not driving her, as soon as I sit in that seat, start her up, and drive away, I always seem to fall back in love. Even if she is slow, she handles so nicely on curvy back roads. Yeah I didn't have much choice though. It was my first car and my parents who helped me buy it insisted I had an auto. If I had the time I would love to swap it to a manual, but I don't. -------------------- |

Strap a couple of jet engines or a flux capacitor on it and call it a day. If you do install the flux capacitor, the rocket engines or a 3sgte are a necessity to reach 92 mph. The 7a and 5s are too weak to generate the required 1.21 gigawatts It's 88 mph, GAH. Still, you'd have to be going downhill in a hurricane to do that in a 6gc I go 88 in third all the time 0.o just shift at 6k and have fun. got it up to 140 no problems. it's quick with small modifications. My camaro will literally do circles around it but it has a certain feel like everyone says. |

I live in Bucks County, PA. We have lots of twisting roads along hillsides (too small to be mountains), and that Chrysler Crossfire I drove yesterday revealed itself as a highway car almost immediately. I knew it was made in Germany, and its steering reminded me of the first Mercedes sedan I drove back in the late 70's: DULL, DULL, DULL. We even had the top down, and it was still dull. It had power once you punched it, but I need steering to go with those fries. I got back in my Celica, and was instantly at home. I like the idea of gently fine tuning and fixing up a Celica. Mine was bought very clean, but I've added a HU with DVD and satellite radio. I wax it often (spray on stuff and sometimes liquid), and the black interior keeps my vacuum busy. I'd like to add some larger wheels, but wonder if that will effect the car's handling on twisty roads... 5 minutes from our house, and miles and miles of the same! Holy crap, im from bucks county originlly. where are you at? im residing in the mountains outside of pitt right now and handling out here is a must |

Fair enough, but my statement stands. Well naturally. Never disagreed with you. It's sort of like power in the same regard. If all you do it putt putt around town doing errands never exceeding 35 mph, you don't need 300+ hp. Right now I'd be be better off with something that got better mpg, or something I'd really like to drive. I'm the world's pickiest person, so there's no guarantee I'll like the next car either. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I guess call it reasoning with the the heart over mind. The 7A is dead reliable, and that's great. It also can do 38mpg, that's the most I've squeezed out of mine. Unfortunately, the glory of those numbers starts to dwindle with such a low bhp output, as a car with this power and weight should be getting over 40mpg. I've seen you say you're cheap, I hardly doubt your next car will prove less fussy than an ST. That's my big problem with the Celica. Honda Civic of the same year, power, and weight absolutely kills it in the mpg department. The Hell? I'm cheap by nature, but if it's something I enjoy I don't mind spending money on it. For example I have more invested in musical instruments than I do my car. I'd be happier now with either a Civic for the mpg, or something performance oriented to be able to enjoy. Just one of those cases of hindsight being 20/20. If only we had gotten the SS-III or GT-Four, oh well.

in regards to if you have nothing else to fix up interior, exterior, engine bay, the only thing left to do is race it or keep changing stuff out. Other than that, everyone with any car will get to that point sooner or later.
I guess there are a bunch of factors why people would lose interest: financial problems, lack of aftermarket support or availability, newer cars coming out, seeing other peoples cars, getting beaten by other cars, lack of potential basically without spending lots of money, car is always breaking. I've been thinking a Miata would be better than my Celica. I've always liked them plus RWD is just better.

I've on and off thought about the Miata before, then I remembered it only has some 110 horsepower. I would probably go with a 1.8 which has 130ish so its not far off from the celi. I know some people think of it has a "gay mans car" or whatever but I honestly don't care. Just give it to me!! You will feel fullfilled with yerning to do a good deed in helping another Celica fan!! No more worries of boerdom!!! JK JK!! I would actually like to sell it to a forum member. That way I know it's going to someone who appreciates it. -------------------- |

I'm currently selling mine.
Who cares what people think. EVERY car has some negative view of it, so just get one you like. I'm getting a manly car with 300 horsepower. Sad when you think about it, that's almost three times what I currently have... -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I've been thinking a Miata would be better than my Celica. I've always liked them plus RWD is just better. Well, it's probably the most fun car I've ever had, I say go for it! Btw, after I gutted my miata, put a lightweight flywheel and and intake and exhaust, it's probably faster or at least as fast as my celica, hard to say since the celica is just all low-end torque with no top end and the miata is the opposite. I'd definitely recommend a 94+ so you get the 1.8L motor instead of a 1.6, a 7-inch rear diff instead of a 6-inch, and bigger brake rotors. I've already upgraded to 94+ brakes and rear end, and now I'm playing with the idea of getting a 1.8 swap so it would've been cheaper just to get a 94+ to begin with... -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

Traction is over rated, like brakes or air bags.
