Well I can tell you for a fact that as long as I have my car, which I plan on doing for quite some time, I will probably be on this site at least once a day. I read as much as I can, but don't post all that much. There is so much useful information here for people like me who aren't the biggest mechanics, or able to craft custom bumpers. Funds are low at the moment but as time goes on that won't be the case and my postings will go up.

Trends come and go, but I figure it to be common sense that you'll probably see more posts on a forum for sports-cars during the summer. Even if theres not as much as there used to be.

All my money is going into the ST165 at the moment.

With the ST165, ST185, ST204 and now the CX4A, I've got too many projects and not enough time or money.

I don't post anything non-6g here, in my experience, it really doesn't go over too well.

I have the same prediction about this website. The number of active members are decreasing and there is nothing new left to explore. I wish it was 2005 again. :\

I was thinking today...
We do still get new members fairly often, and usually when they first post, their questions or seem (to us) as common knowledge, or ideas seem off the wall, and it I think we just ignore the threads and this might discourage them from returning or posting much at all. Not that any of us are cynical in any way its probably just "ugh how many times are they going to ask these questions??"

Just a thought. Thoughts on my thought?

These children are the future of 6gc!!!! haha

^^^ are u drunk tonite?

maybe ur right! but actually with so many cars out there that are modifiable and lot of support cough ** civics ** cough, there is really nothing inventive to these cars. Most of us that still have it, its because of some nostalgic value.

but all answers are the same... 3sgte swaps, 1mz or beams. and most people get discouraged, because its 5k investment on a 2k car at the most, unless its pristine, then why toss a good engine.

someone needs to step up and start R & D for the celica, new swaps, new engines and go from there, but this is not forseable. Most end up giving up, and going to buy STANGS and muscle tin cans! lol. Can you blame them? no.

So for those of you that love this car, get a 3 TB hard drive and save the info, with traffic this low, one day Coomer may decide to flip the swtich....

well someone do a 9A-GTE build then (1.9L)

i have been thinking about it for a bit making a sticky thread that covers everything you need to make your ST or GT into a GT4 ie body parts engine and transmission/axle or SS-III and BEAMS

but before that I'm working on very detailed info for the ST202 and ALL TRDjp parts

I don't visit other forums really, so I don't know what a high number of daily postings is, but 20 seems high to me anyway. Maybe its because I work as an engineer so I don't have time to troll all day, or at all really. But I'm not sure I've ever posted 20 times in a day while I was working.

But as far as modifications to the car are concerned, yeah we've explored just about everything..... BUT aren't the honda guys saying the same thing about the civic???

I mean how many times can you suggest a b swap, or the same turbo kit that just "bolts on" or the same cat back, I mean, as much as we say its a custom part you can get from Vincent, they say its a bolt on part you can get from greddy.

The technology changes and I bet even the honda guys are a little bored, they just have new members asking the same questions all the time.

We all know this is the best driving car we've ever owned or ridden in for that matter. It corners, dives into the turn, and comes out with direction and purpose. And if you throw it in too hard it will bite you with oversteer like you've never seen before. But it's controlled chaos. Its a driving experience that I haven't found in Mits. 3000gt's , or Nissan Maximas, or Honda Civics, or any other car. It's nimble, it's quick, and we can even make them fast. But the problem here isn't the car, its us. We could build the best 6g to ever exist. We could own a GT4 with all the upgrades, and still....... at some point we are going to buy a different car because the "mod" bug has stopped biting, think Batman (just saying dustin). We are ALWAYS wanting to be on the next big thing, pushing the envelope. It's no fault of the car for being inadequate, it's our problem we'll never be content.

I mean heck, I have a 174k mile kia sportage as my Winter/off road beater, and I'm thinking about putting the Mazda spec cams in the motor for another 40 hp.... WHY?! its an old worn out kia with a hole in the exhaust right off the manifold!

We're looking for something to make us excited, something to make us more interesting, something to give us another reason to go forum troll somewhere else to find the next interesting thing. And the truth is, we'll never find it.

So I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to build the racecar and "have fun". I'm going to finish the RHD car, maybe do some other small things with it, and "have fun" driving it, freaking people out, and maybe taking the car to track day and dominating the N/A 4 cyl class. I'm going to keep driving my 94 dd to work and back until I can't stand it anymore or it can't stand the 32k mile/year abuse I'm giving it. I'm going to sell the Kia eventually, I'm going to repair an old S-10 we had that my mom gave to me before she passed that was my great grandfathers, and I'm going to get out of cars with the exception of my Hobby cars that I'm using for FUN. We need to find something that makes us feel as ALIVE as the celica did. Makes us feel like we're doing something interesting, worthy, important to someone. We shouldn't build cars for the people on the forum, we should build cars for us. We should look for the needle in a haystack, push the limits of our own originality, our own internal engineer, and maybe we can find that same spark, that same feeling of being alive. I'm going back to what started it for me, airplanes. And I'm going to build and fly an ultralight. Going to take to the sky. I'm going to run my house off batteries and wind and sun. I'm going to build guns, I'm going to live life outside of cars, outside of the track, outside of the strip, and certainly outside of this forum.

Coomer probably doesn't even care about having this server up. it probably doens't cost him anything as it's probably a desktop sitting in his parent's basement. I'm not saying we have to ever really "move on from celica's" all together. Why not move on concurrently, beside them, through them, with them, and then when we're ready away from them. Our forum traffic here is merely a function of how many are left on the road. How many are still being bought by the parents of teenagers because they want to get their kid a reliable gas sipper at a Jurassic 28mpg.... How many were new in 94 vs how many were new in 99.

My next car is going to be 40 mpg plus and it's going to be practical. My celica, will always be my fun completely impractical ride. And I intend on loving every minute of it.

i skimmed up until this part haha.

this was all inevitable with an aging (not special collector) car, as apposed to the supra and gt-four

there will be people 20 years from now, with old 2011 Scion TC's having this exact same conversation

i've seen threads like this pop up once every couple years over the course of the 10+ years i've been a member here.
the fact is, the car is getting older, owners are getting younger, with less disposable income, and as that happens, the forum has become less active with people who actually take the time to document and post new info.
if you guys that are complaining about it want new and interesting things done, GO OUT THERE AND DO IT!
the only way the site will progress is by you going out there, trying new things, and documenting them here for everyone to see.
back in the day, when I was more active, I posted about everything I did with the celica, good and bad, and went out of my way to help other members do things to theyre cars. thats how I learned everything I know about the celica, and cars in general.
When I joined this site 10+ years ago, the only work I would do to my cars is change oil.
hell, I think my first few posts were about having springs installed by a local shop...I wouldnt pay anyone to touch my car in any way now a days, and thats all because of this site, and the people I've met because of it.
So, all I'm saying is, its all up to you guys where the site goes, and the content within it.
it dont matter who owns it, or where the site is hosted, if you guys dont keep the content worth coming back for, yes, the site will die, no doubt about it.
if you want the site to grow and thrive, stop posting about how the site is dying and isnt fun anymore, and MAKE IT HAPPEN.

I hope it's not dying I just got back into my Celica. I was on here a lot when I first joined, then I took a long break but now I'm back. I'm on here everyday usually, and trying to learn everything.

No worries, plenty of us on here active now that are currently doing work. Some of us quicker or slower then others, but I see enough activity things will be fine for a bit.

although some of the stickies have dead links and non-active members.

maybe if somebody wants to they can redo a stickie. Didn't we have a group account to upload photos somewhere?
maybe upload stickies photos to that so that if someone deletes their account, the pics don't dissappear.

I feel like I so a lot of thread revive sometimes since I've only been a member for a year. Lol. Here's the link to that upload pics to 6gc Photobucket. Oh and btw. I'm 20 years old and planning on keeping my Celica forever! Never going to sell this baby. Going to drive it until the engine gives up and get another rebuilt 5sfe. Which means another 200k+ miles for my car. Would like to swap to other alternatives but you can only do so lil in Cali and get in trouble. Lol. smile.gif

We'll arent you guys depressing.

Someday this website will be gone, we will all die some day, the interwebs will eventually get shutdown and the sun will explode and devour the earth.
Everything in this universe is finite except for time, but ironically time is the thing we(mankind) have the least of. Guess we just have to enjoy the moment and stop worrying about the future.

Anyways I just bought a whole bunch of mods for my 94GT yesterday and Im still hunting for a 1mz donor. In fact, any ideas where I can get a 1mz, harbess and ecu for cheap other than craigslist?
