Hey guys, so I'm gonna be doin an ST205 Swap this summer. I already have the motor and all the parts, now I have to choose from a celica GT or a celica ST. I will be getting an ST, but I also have access to a GT. Any ideas on which one would be easier? I know the ST I have to drill a hole for the GT motor mounts, but I dont believe that would be that hard. I also heard the wire for the fan is different for the ST but that shouldnt be too hard either. Is there anything else I should be considering? I also plan to do a GT Four brakes conversion, idk if the difficulty changes on the ST model because of the drum brakes. ST is a 94 so I wont have to worry about OBD II to get my emissions done where I live, the 97 GT however I do have to worry about it. Trying to weigh the pros and cons, any suggestions?

Find a 94-95 GT for the swap, would make life a little easier. I'm sure you can find one between now and when you want to do the swap.

I would 10x this.
An ST is just more headache and more $ spent. At least with the GT you can sell off the motor and other parts you don't use

you would need a transmission too and the GT one bolts right up to the 3s.

I personally would just do the ST, specifically for the omissions.

The differences between the swaps is not that much, sure there are some major items to acquire, but in the long run it would appear the ST would be better suited.

When I was swapping to my ST I already had all the odd parts before I had the engine, wasn't that expensive. Just the transmission is the killer.

Hell he could swap the drums onto the GT from the ST couldn't he?

GET A GT.

The ST is a pain and extra money. Radiator is different, you need to buy a trans, you need to buy all 4 motor mounts, power steering hoses are different, etc...
I've swapped both a GT and an ST. Starting out with a GT is well worth the minimal cost difference between the two cars.

Actually I have mostly everything. I've got a broken gt I could steal a tranny from if it came down to it, but I already have an extra transmission. Also I bought the clip so I have majority of what I'll be needing. Any other worries I should consider? Basically I'm trying to see how much more of a headache the ST will be in terms of things I'd have to do.

If you have a spare GT laying around, you have everything you need nearly. A little more work, but its up to you on how you want to handle the registration.

Everyone is saying go for the GT because its easier, and cheaper. Seeing you have all the parts, now you just determine if you want it just easier.

I'll see if I can find a gt by summer and use the st for a dd. In case I decide to just stick with the st, does anyone have a list or know where I can get a list of extra parts I'll be needing, such as radiator, hoses, shifter cables etc. ?

Swap into a mustang like this guy here.

The only Mustang I'd get is the 64.5-73, with heavy preference to the 69. You just jelly I'm getting a car with a real engine. tongue.gif

Hey can I just use the radiator from the st205 clip for the swap into the celica ST or does the RHD affect that?

You can use the 3s radiator for your 3s swap.

Unless the ST has different radiator mounts than the GT..I used the 3s radiator on my GT..

ST205 and ST202 shares the same radiator. Well, at least aftermarket ones are interchangeable between the two.

ST205 rad is bigger. Otherwise I wouldn't have just spent money for one on my swap if the GT/202 one would have worked =P

But they mount all the same, and you will need new hoses, GT ones won't work.

Mounting was the same then. All I know is that Mishimoto says it's for the ST205 and ST202. tongue.gif

Well I'll have the AT200, I dunno about the ST202 whether they are similar or not when it comes to the radiator. So are you saying that even if I swapped into a ST204, I'd still have to get new hoses? Well either way it seems like the radiator and hoses on the clip won't be able to just swap across. So would I just buy an aftermarket radiator for the ST204 for the swap?

No...

The GT or ST - The AT200, or ST202 radiators will not work with a 3sgte engine. They are to small. You need a ST205, or 50mm alum. radiator! With respectable hoses for said engine. The inlet and outlet on the rads are the same, but the location of the water necks on the engine are located in different areas.

You can use a ST205 rad on a 5sfe, or 7afe powered engine..just not the other way around.

Edit:

What engine are you swapping into your vehicle?

I see ST205 which is a 3sgte, and then I see a ST204 which I believe is a 3sge...makes a big diff.

ST204 is the 5sfe, but I will be swapping the ST205 into the AT200 (7afe). But I do have the ST205 front clip, which means I can just use the radiator from the clip for my swap right?
