Hi all,

I just bought a 95 Celica ST with the 7afe engine and auto trans. It's got 240k miles on it. Anyway, I plan on doing a full rebuild from the block up.

Does anyone know how well these engines hold up to cylinder wear?? I know the block is cast iron but that doesn't mean much. My hope is that it will still measure within spec and I can just hone it and use new pistons and rings. If I have to bore it out, I'll just pick up another engine.

I'll also have to get the head checked and/or decked since it overheated a couple times while driving it to my house.

If you just throw some new rings on it you'll have to keep your eyes out for oil consumption. It would probably be best to oversize the pistons slightly.

have a machine shop measure the cylinders and the pistons. if the clearance is still good. have them hone the cylinders, get new rings and slap it together. of course with new bearings too. i wrote a guide on how to build a 7A-FE

Why? It's an automatic ST, drive it into the ground while you save up money for a swap or better car.

I'm actually with Box on this one. I'd just drive it into the ground and swap out.
