Hey guys, so just recently I started getting a clicking sound when I drive my car. When I got over a bump it clicks bad and I'm starting to think that my front driver side strut is blown out. Seeing as my car is a 95 and I assume the struts have never been changed as I am the second owner, I was thinking about going with a nice set out coil overs (that aren't overly expensive) instead of just replacing the blown struts with new ones. My question is: what do you guys recommend when it comes to coil overs? I want to have something reliable but not too expensive, and I've seen a few online already (Megan, K-sport, etc.) that aren't too expensive. What do you guys run and how do you guys like it? If anyone could help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I'm on Megan Racing and am currently riding almost maxed out on the lowest setting. Also almost maxed out on the most stiff. These coilovers are real stiff. If you want to go low and ride stiff for cheap then get the Megan Racing. I never driven/experienced the Megan EZ series but I am starting to see a lot of Hondas riding them. I supposed they're perfect for a DD car. They have height adjustment, preload adjustment, front camber plate and damper settings. Same thing my Racing series has but for a cheaper price.

I'm planning on getting the Megan EZ series.
they're the cheapest ones around. Like alot of members say on here, it cost just as much as a set of lowering springs and new struts etc when you add up the costs. -------------------- *1997 Celica ST - 3SGE Greytop BEAMS *1977 Celica RA29 - Classic Cruiser *2005 Matrix AWD - dedded but still hanging around like a ghost 2019 Rav4 XLE Premium - Sports mode is fun. |

I'm not too worried about it being stiff, it's a DD and the roads I live on aren't too harsh when it comes to potholes, speed bumps, etc. I have been looking at the Megan EZ racing and they aren't too expensive. I'm thinking about going that route I was just wondering what some of you guys run. As far as ride height, it'll be nice to have it adjustable until I get a new set of wheels. Thanks for the input, it's greatly appreciated. -------------------- "I'd rather lose by a mile because I built my own car than win by an inch because someone else built it for me"

You think the EZ series is too expensive? Lol. I believe theyre the cheapest coilovers for.our car atm. If you cant afford it. Just replace your shocks. If you upgrade to anything else. You're going to spend the same thing as buying the ez series.

Id say that out of the box, most of these coilovers have a stiff spring rate, if you are set on getting coilovers and only plan on DD'ing the car, id possible look into contacting the company you end up choosing and have them send you a set with a lower spring rate. Itd lessen the loss of comfort when you switch to coilovers.
Id say if you only plan on DD'ing (and not lowering, stancing, racing, etc), a strut and spring setup would be the better option -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

Before jumping into coilovers, id suggest confirming that it is indeed the struts causing the sound. It sounds pretty similar to endlinks too, so maybe before dropping a thousand bucks on coilovers, confirm what is producing the sound first.

Yeah haha I said not too expensive, I had to look over my own comment again for that one. I do actually want to lower the ride height so that the car has a better stance (Not stupid low though) and I figured if I put a set of COs then I can adjust the ride height when I get new wheels as well. As far as calling the company and getting softer springs, that's not a bad idea. I may do that seeing as it will be my daily driver. I've changed out struts, tie rod ends, etc on other cars and I've experienced the sound and the feeling a few times before. When I drive on smooth roads it's fine, when I hit a pothole or slight bump it starts clicking like crazy. I check my tie rod ends, ball joints, etc and they're good. When I push down on the driver side of the car it makes the noise and the car keeps bouncing well after I stop putting force on it so I'm almost certain it's the strut or the strut mount or possibly both in my situation. I just figured it'd be a good time to upgrade. -------------------- "I'd rather lose by a mile because I built my own car than win by an inch because someone else built it for me"

If you take a look at the different brands and see what spring rates they set their coilovers they release for our car, you can probably find a company who has the set around the 5k range. MOST of the companies have them set around 6 or 7k out of the box.
But honestly, if you are going to lower it, you wont want the car bouncing around (a bit of an exaggeration) and the out of the box spring rates arent TOO bad, itll take a bit longer to get custom spring rated coilovers directly from the manufacturer rather then getting the off the shelf ones from a distributor. -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

Well the thing is that I want to eventually trade up to another 6gc with a manual transmission so I'm hesitant when it comes to putting money into this one. I do have to change out the struts so I figured why not put some inexpensive coilovers to see how it'll look. I want to hold off (as much as I possibly can) from modding this one until I get a manual 6gc, when that happens all the mods will happen. For now I want to make this my experiment car in the sense that I want to see what I could do to make it look good without putting too much into it. Like I said before, I don't mind a stiff ride because anything is better than what I have now and my car is just aching to be lowered, and having wider tires of course. -------------------- "I'd rather lose by a mile because I built my own car than win by an inch because someone else built it for me"
