QUOTE (Lamont @ Nov 2, 2014 - 5:17 PM) *
Today I finally got everything installed on my 1MZ FE swap, but sadly it doesn't start, it will only cranks. I have fuel at the rail, but I ran out of daylight and didn't get to check compression or spark. Well time to troubleshoot kindasad.gif kindasad.gif

My findings so far; There is no CEL, I have 0 spark on all 6 cylinders, there is fuel pressure at the rail, and my compression numbers are:

cyl1 - 200
cyl2 - 200
cyl3 - 200
cyl4 - 196
cyl5 - 198
cyl6 - 205

I'm guessing I could possibly have a dead igniter. Any thoughts? I won't be able to get to the junk yard until Friday to grab another igniter.

No spark... Cam or crank sensor perhaps?

Both are brand new. Not saying it isn't possible that one or both are bad. I think I threw out the old sensors so I'll have to grab some from the junk yard as well.

I'd just double check they're connected properly and that the wiring hasn't been crushed or what have you. Should be able to test any components with a multi-meter to make sure they're bad before replacing.

You'll need to get the engine started and warmed up to temperature before seeing if you have any codes or getting an accurate compression check. Does your CEL light up when you turn the key on?

No, with the key in the on position the only lights on the dash are the battery, oil, and seat belt. Once I turn it over the oil light goes out and only the battery and seat belt light remain on.

Your ECU isn't getting any power if the light doesn't turn on with the key on.

Would this be caused by a fuse or relay?

I'd check the fuses.

yes if you are not getting a CEL in the on position then the ECU is not getting power. If its a harness issue ill be happy to take responsibility. First we need to figure out why you dont have power. This could be a fuse, or relay, or something on your car. This could also be because the grounds are not making good connections. there are 2 grounds in the harness, one gets bolted to the back of your block and the other get bolted to the side on the ACIS housing.

if those are both good look at the drawing and confirm that you have power going to the ECU. For all you know its the ECU itself.

also if you made a dedicated thread I would have seen this sooner. Sorry about the CAM sensor breaking off, That could have happened as you were installing the harness. I ohm checked every trace so it was all good when i sent it out.

Start a dedicated thread so I can keep track of what troubleshooting has been done. Im not going through several different posts in this thread to keep up. Im not gonna leave you hanging. we will figure this out.

+1 to the amazing Smaay. Check out that customer service. I'd let him do my swap if I didn't have major trust issues with people and my Celica :3
