Gold is still my first choice, but my second choice is definitely black with a gold Chocobo on the hood. Haha yes! ![]() -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Fancy firechicken. Definitely get the TA hood, fenders and decals it'll be sweet. I'm going to keep an eye out for someone parting out locally. I like the Trans Am bodywork, but I also like how this one is too. It's clean and sleek looking with only having the spoiler. I would say it gives it a sleeper look, but the loud cam lope kind of ruins it. ![]() -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Sad Miata. ![]() I know, I was quite torn up about it when it happened. I had just finished fixing everything up only for a lady to back out into the road without looking... I had thought about getting another one, but a NA8 this time around for the improved chassis. If the Firebird ends up being too much of a gas guzzler I plan to either get another Miata or a Celica for use during the week and use the Firebird for the weekends. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

With lean cruise you should be able to pull at least mid 20's on the highway with EFI and a 4spd trans.

If I'm going to go through the hassle of putting in another transmission I'll do a 5-speed swap. Plenty of 5-speed 3.4 cars with blown motors.

I agree with that. Also makes running an ECM much easier if you don't need to worry about controlling the trans. That being said, for 1/4 mile times a tuned and built 4L80E is hard to beat, it'll shift faster than any human and snap your damn neck doing it.

Ironically I'm not overly concerned with 1/4 mile times, exhaust will probably be the only thing I'll do as far as the engine goes since the stock exhaust is still in place and way too restrictive for what's in it now. That and I may do an electronic ignition, though that'll be more in pursuit of efficiency. I do really want to convert it to a manual though, more for driving fun than anything else. The automatic is livable just for the shear amounts of power and the accompanying soundtrack. Once the engine is finished breaking in I'll probably take it up to the local strip just to see what it can do. I offered to race my brother in his 301 Trans Am and declined for some reason.

Forgot to say headers going with exhaust, but not sure if wanting to do shorty or long tubes. Thinking might try and find some 16's or 17's for it to help sharpen the steering. A mild resto-mod is ultimately what I'd like to do. Also I'm pretty sure the motor is more setup for racing than what the guy believed it to be, noticed it didn't go past 180º yesterday. I already had someone stop and ask about it yesterday afternoon while I was adjusting the carb. Anyhow, I'll start a thread here for it later to keep up with all of the things I do.

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/mc/efi/ Edelbrock makes some EFI for Dummies systems, but I don't know how well they work with a lopey cam. Likely you'd need something with a MAF to cope with unsteady manifold vacuum.

For what EFI conversion would cost I'm more than content with running a carburetor.

Well for what Edelbrock charges...there's much much much cheaper ways. Like getting a later model intake manifold, wire harness, timing cover, and ECM off a junked SBC from a truck or something. The SBC 350's up to the early 90's used the rectangle ports like yours uses I believe you could do the whole swap, including an inline fuel pump (you don't need an intake unit) for a few hundred I imagine. Edelbrock charges a premium for the idiot proofing.

If I go fuel injection I'd want to go multi-port and not the TBI nonsense. Today I helped my brother with installing the Mishimoto intercooler kit and HKS BOV on his Genesis Coupe. Definitely sounds different with the HKS versus the factory bypass valve. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

I've only ever been the spectator of porshes so it must of been quite nice to actually be to put it into first, even for just a second look here on this page http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/ do you see how all of the 911's have a rounded rear deck? I know we had another Porsche there that night, I didn't get to drive it but I passed by it parked in the garage a dozen times that night so I know it was a grey 911 Cayman. But this one I drove was white, and it didn't have the rounded back end, it was more of a slant and it actually had a vertical rear window that means it must have been a 918... So instead of a $100,000 car it was a $900,000 car O.0 you could feel the lope of the cam in the clutch pedal it was freakn sweet. -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.
