Today I started the search for a 6gc for my nephew,. I've debated on selling him one of mine, but we have two months before he needs it, so might as well find him his own.
I'm waiting to hear back on a 99 with 86k miles that was smashed in the rear passengers side, and a 94 with a thrown rod that looks great,. Possibly picking up the pair for 500-600. Seems like a great first work car. Let me know if you have something close to or in Michigan for sale, I'm actively trolling craigslist, and others. |

Today, I am pretty certain that I've totaled my car. Fresh snow + damp corners + overcorrecting = car shopping.
Insurance inspection is Thursday so I'll know more then. -------------------- Has no more Celicas

You southern guys need to realize that snow tires decimate all other tires in the snow.
Also, if you don't know how to drive in the snow, please be extra cautious. Sad to hear that it might be totaled This post has been edited by mkernz22: Feb 24, 2015 - 4:38 PM |

I hope it can be repaired. Not looking forward to the snow here in Atlanta over the next few days. Your car and mine could be be twins, only differences is 5 speed and tan cloth instead of leather. |

Yup, most summer tires are useless when it gets anywhere close to freezing. As others have said it's a shame it happened, but you being ok is the important part. Most people wouldn't have full coverage on an older car that's not of collectible status, so you might be better off deciding not to file a claim and keep your deductible and fix it out of pocket. Really it just depends on the extent of the damage and how much they'll give you, that's if they want to total it. If you want to keep the car and don't care about the money you're better off just taking the hit, as getting a rebuilt title is a real bitch.

You southern guys need to realize that snow tires decimate all other tires in the snow. Also, if you don't know how to drive in the snow, please be extra cautious. Sad to hear that it might be totaled Yeah, I understand that but it snows in NC about once a year for a day at most - this year has been a freak one to say the least - so snow tires don't usually make financial sense in these parts. Usually, a set of All-Seasons is about as much as you need but hey, there's exceptions to every rule... And I feel I should clarify the snow part; it wasn't packed or powdered at all - it was really a mixture of melted snow and still falling snow - almost a slush mixture and that **** is terrible on cold tires. Combined with the fact I was probably the 3rd person to drive through that corner today meant it hadn't been thinned or fully melted. 30 minutes after I crashed the car it was all gone/melted except on the very edges of the road from sunlight and other cars driving over it. So, had I left later in the morning - and not been an idiot on cold tires - I doubt I'd be typing this. Either way, I appreciate the advice and candor, Mike. If you want to keep the car and don't care about the money you're better off just taking the hit, as getting a rebuilt title is a real bitch. Yeah, I kept full coverage from when the car was still financed (I was young and just out of college so cash was an issue...) and I never removed it since it didn't add much to my premium and I'd rather the thing be covered in the event of a tree falling on it than have to pay out of pocket. At this point, if it's totaled and the insurance company provides a check for around $4,000 (the engine was rebuilt recently, only about ~30,000 miles are on it, and I have all the receipts for work proving the car was in very good condition) then I'll walk away from this 99 and find another 6gc or possibly get a Legacy 2.5GT Limited (I've been talking myself out of getting one for the past 3 months...). If the car is repairable I'll do that but I highly doubt it at this point. This post has been edited by Keiri: Feb 24, 2015 - 6:45 PM -------------------- Has no more Celicas
